STS Technical Services is Hiring Mechanical Production Engineers in Charlotte, North Carolina!

Must be willing to work in one of company’s physical locations of Columbia, SC, Ludington, MI, Fairmont, MN, or Charlotte, NC.

Position Summary and Primary Responsibilities:

The Mechanical Product Engineer will serve in a technical role in designing, documenting and supporting standard and custom rail service equipment and functional systems, and will provide production support for assigned products

* Design and document mechanical systems to meet customer and internal requirements

* Support system level target manufacturing cost objectives

* Support system integration into the vehicle

* Support system and component level DFMEAs

* Work in a diverse team environment to support the creation of component level and simple systems design and integrate them into a cohesive vehicle architecture

* Manage technical documentation for production-ready 3D CAD models of sub-assemblies and mechanical components with 2D production prints

* Analyze Change Requests & implement Change Notices

* Maintain Product Structure / Bill of Materials (BOM)

* Offer innovative solutions for cost reductions, quality issues, safety issues, etc.

* Create new and improve existing standard work procedures

* Frequent visits to the shop floor, customer site, and field in order to work with Production to improve quality, manufacturability, cost, etc.

* Provide periodic status updates on projects

* Offer innovative solutions to technically complex problems

* May travel to customer locations, globally, to support product in field applications

* Perform other reasonably-related tasks as assigned by management

Basic Qualifications:

A. Education

* Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Agricultural Engineering

B. Experience

* 7+ years of heavy equipment product engineering experience

* Experience with 3D CAD modeling and PLM software

* Solid Edge and Teamcenter experience preferred

* Experience creating and maintaining BOM’s

* Knowledge of Systems engineering principles and processes

* Knowledge of DFM, DFA, Design to Cost

* Basic knowledge of Railroad-specific standards and design practices

* Experience of machine design in heavy mobile equipment

* Knowledge of ferrous materials’ properties and characteristics

* Knowledge of welding principles and practices

* Knowledge of manufacturing principles and processes

* Knowledge of Lean / Six Sigma

C. Interpersonal Skills

* The ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical data

* The ability to write in a clear and concise manner

* The ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from other departments

* Ability to actively participate in multi-disciplined functional teams

* Ability to communicate project status updates in a team environment

D. Technical Skills

* Computer skills: Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Outlook

E. Other Skills

* The ability to effectively plan, organize and complete work with minimal supervision

* The ability to communicate complex technical information to other departments and functions

* Comfortable working in a matrix organization: The Mechanical Product Design Engineer must be able to work effectively with employees at all levels in different departments on a daily basis

* Ability to incorporate and manage multiple formats into the complete product definition: vendor manuals, vendor data sheets, customer specifications, Harsco Rail specifications, 2D drawings, 3D models, mark-ups, verbal instructions, etc.

* Highly motivated to provide project deliverables on time and be able to establish priorities when multiple deliverables coincide

* Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment, and working with manufacturing personnel to address issues and implement design improvements

* Interest and ability to contribute to evolving work processes

* Passionate about mechanical product design

Essential Functions:

* The ability to predictably and regularly attend work and to be punctual

* The ability to read and understand technical documents and drawings

* The ability to deal politely and professionally with customers, coworkers and suppliers

* The ability to perform several tasks at once and establish priorities

* The ability to follow direction or instruction.

* The ability to use a computer to communicate, create, and access information

* The ability to travel via commercial airline and automobile up to 15% of the time
