Role Summary/Purpose
L-3 SSG has an opportunity for an entry-level Mechanical Engineer to join our talented engineering organization. This position is a Design Engineer role with a concentration in space mission payload systems design & development. Mechanical Engineers are key members of multi-disciplined teams, possessing expert understanding of aerospace mechanical engineering technology and payload architectures for spacecraft sub-systems and instruments. In this role you will design hardware using Autodesk Inventor. Entry-level engineers initially work under the direction of more senior staff members and are encouraged to assume greater responsibility based on performance and interests.
Qualifications
Essential Responsibilities
The scope of the position covers Mechanical Design for space based mission system payloads from conceptual trades and detailed designs to supplier and integration & test support of payload level sensor systems for the aerospace and commercial community. Mechanical Design Engineers are responsible for supporting engineering design efforts of complex electro-optical and opto-mechanical systems, supporting development of alternative designs to satisfy system requirements, documenting design approaches, detailing assemblies, and drafting part drawings to supporting the development, manufacture, and test of payload sensor systems. Expectations include:
• Concurrent mechanical design within an IPT team structure
• Creating design concepts using CAD software software.
• Documenting and presenting designs to management and to customers
• Support a variety of programs/projects often concurrently
