Job Role:

The role is to provide Materials & Processes support, solutions and information to meet customer or project requirements. This is achieved by a combination of sound Materials and Processes experience combined with the interpersonal skills necessary to co-ordinate with other departments and organisations.

The role will also require that the job holder supports the running of Materials & Processes related tasks with various internal teams and other business units, external suppliers and our customers. Assisting the M&P Team Leader in the supervision, support and development of less experienced M&P Engineers within the business will also be a requirement.

Qualifications/Knowledge/Experience

The job holder will be educated to degree level or HNC/HND level in Materials Science or Mechanical/Aeronautical Engineering (with a Materials bias) as a minimum.

Equivalent acceptable alternative would be at least 5 years in an Aeronautical Design Engineering environment with good all round detailed knowledge of materials, mechanical procedures, components and processes relating to aircraft manufacture.

Knowledge of some aspects of IT/Computing, Manufacturing, Quality and Materials/Structural Testing.

Key Responsibilities
Support the needs of the business for provision of and advice on customer, national and international material and process specifications, ensuring that released information and data meets with the Design and Legislative requirements whilst taking into account health and safety needs.

Offers advice on the selection and properties of aircraft materials and processes.

Examples of critical areas are metallics, non-metallics, composites, and their associated processes, adhesive, paints, sealants and fasteners

Review and provide advice on technical documentation submitted by suppliers (e.g. First Part Qualification, Technique Sheets, Thermal Profiles).

Liaise with suppliers and customers in the management and control of technically vetted documents in order to achieve customer approval.

Responsible for the creation, maintenance & auditing of business engineering processes.

Role holder will be technically capable in order to keep the business informed of the latest developments/improvements with particular regard to materials and processes from any source

Knowledge of the techniques, practices and procedures relevant to the particular area of the business is required.

Establish and maintain a working knowledge of the products relevant to the area of the business in order to provide a breadth of coverage to the role.

Communications skills are required to liaise with other internal departments and outside organisations, including suppliers and customers.

Good organisational skills are required to manage personal workload and provide an input to the management of tasks. This will include estimating, planning and monitoring of own tasks.

Assisting with product audits, identifying and implementing corrective actions.

Work closely with other departments to identify and implement cost reduction initiatives & quality improvements.

Responsible for the day to day activities of M&P Engineers including workload distribution.

Responsible for people issues in the absence of Team Leader, i.e. overtime, time-off and holidays.

Responsible for the identification of training and development requirements of M&P Engineering staff through the PDR process.

Responsible for the compilation and presentation of M&P input at design reviews, both internal and external.

Responsible for M&P actions identified at Engineering reviews, both internal and external.

Responsible for conducting Vendor assessment of the M&P capabilities of existing and potential suppliers.
