Duties

  • Undertake standby duties with a high state of readiness (airborne within 30 minutes during the day, 2 hours at night.)
  • Activities to promote readiness, e.g. daily briefings and equipment checks

  • General upkeep of equipment, including but not limited to: inspection and care of survival equipment, mission equipment, cleaning and husbandry of the aircraft and installed equipment

Pre-Flight

  • Customer liaison to establish requirements

  • Flight planning in conjunction with the flight crew

  • Ramp duties to facilitate the prompt dispatch of the aircraft

In-Flight

  • Undertake duties on-board aircraft for prolonged periods (offshore with limited facilities)

  • Make operational assessments / decisions to complete the task at hand

  • Operation of VHF and SATCOM communications equipment

  • Operation of photographic and remote-sensing equipment including ultra-violet, infra-red, and sideways-looking-airborne-radar

  • Operation of position and orientation device to log data for post-flight processing

Post-Flight

  • Report writing to a high standard, including the presentation of numerical data and photographs

  • Processing of raw data (photography and numerical data) through bespoke software for display and manipulation on a geographic information system

Person Specification

Essential

  • Strong verbal communication skills

  • Report writing skills

  • Computer literate, with aptitude to proficiently use bespoke GIS software (training provided)

  • Flexibility to travel
  • Mathematical proficiency

Conditional Requirements to be Satisfied During Probationary Period (unless already held)

  • Security clearances / relevant Airside passes
  • Marine Radio Short Range Certificate

  • Flight Radio Telephony Operator Licence

  • Crew Resource Management Training

  • Completion of in-house training programme (combination of ground and airborne training)

Rostering & Location

The activity level for this role is extremely unpredictable, and it is spread over 24 hours, 365 days per year.  The roster pattern and expected flexibility of the successful candidate reflects this issue.  Currently, the role is rostered as follows:

  • 5 on – 5 off structure (days including reduced night availability between those days)

  • Standby location is not fixed, but will predominantly be East Midlands or Prestwick Airport

  • During duty period base will change dependent on Business / operational requirement
