e have an exciting opportunity for a Manufacturing Engineer Manager (Avionics) in our Technical Operations Department within GA-ASI/Aircraft Systems Group located in Poway, CA.
This role directs all activities within the Mfg. Engineering – Avionics department to generate documentation & training guidance for production teams to fabricate, develop, produce, trouble-shoot, improve, and test components, sub-assemblies, major assemblies, and integrated products in an ISO environment, with strong emphasis in Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Responsible for managing and training a large Engineering team, including Engineers and Laboratory Technicians.
* Leads Kaizen Events and support value stream tracking centers and continuous improvement projects.
* Manages department resourcing, training, and supplies, recruit well-qualified candidates; assign, direct, and evaluate their work, including job description definition and annual performance reviews as needed.
* Coordinates all Manufacturing engineering duties, guide smooth production operations performed at multiple sites.
* Consults with Design & Liaison Engineering, Production, Quality and Materials Management teams to discuss project requirements and procedures.
* Develops manufacturing process specifications, test procedures and other documentation as required.
* Provides technical engineering expertise to the production department as well as assistance to Program Managers and Project/Design Engineers for successful program execution.
* Leads engineering team to document Process Flow, PFMEA (Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis), and operational sequencing to be followed.
* Directs, review, and approve Manufacturing Process Specifications maintaining strict document control standards and Quality policy compliance.
* Evaluates new tooling or equipment to support manufacturing demand, defining Return-on-Investment rationale, preparing Capital expenditure justifications, managing equipment acquisition and installation/start-up.
* Leads facility planning efforts including detailed building plan concepts, equipment and resource arrangement lay-outs, cellular work centers, product flow, and construction project coordination as needed.
* Plans and directs the installation, testing, certification/permitting and operation of manufacturing equipment, ensuring the systems adhere to safety requirements, as well as local, state and federal industry regulations.
* Coordinates Engineering change releases accordingly, enforcing affected tooling & product changes/improvements as needed.
* Supports Non-Conforming product disposition working with the Production and Quality departments to define the proper disposition of the non-conformity.
* Lead effective and systemic root cause Corrective Actions using methodical techniques such as 5-Whys, Ishikawa (fishbone).
* Directs cost reduction and continuous improvement initiatives, drive down repetitive non-conformances through effective corrective measures.
* Works closely with new product development projects to facilitate product & tooling transition from the prototype stage to the production stage.
Job Qualifications
* Typically requires a Bachelors, Masters or PhD in engineering or a related technical field as well as thirteen or more years of progressively complex engineering experience with at least seven of those years having management responsibilities. May substitute equivalent experience in lieu of education.
* Demonstrates extensive technical expertise and application of engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practice as well as comprehensive project management and leadership skills including organizing, planning, scheduling, and coordinating workloads to meet established deadlines or milestones.
* Must possess the ability to resolve complex management and technical problems. Strong communication, leadership, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required to enable an effective interface with other departments, all levels of management, professional and support staff, customers, potential customers, and government representatives.
* Customer focused, must be able to work on a self-initiated basis and in a team environment, and able to work extended hours and travel as required.
* U.S. Citizenship Required.
