MISSION:

To verify specified dimensional measurements on parts in order to assure compliance with PCC and industry standards, and customer specifications, using automated coordinate measuring machines (CMM) or conventional measuring devices; to inspect new and revised tools and fixtures to assure compliance with specifications; to calibrate and adjust a variety of precision measuring devices; to prepare layout and calibration documentation.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1. Layout Inspection

Objective: to position, measure and inspect specified dimensional features of castings, wax patterns, fixtures, and tools to assure compliance with dimensional specifications.

Essential Job Functions:
A. Identifies and interprets casting, wax pattern, fixture, dies and tool dimensions on blueprints.
B. Constructs three-dimensional plane coordinates for measurement reference as defined on blueprints.
C. Completes a variety of mathematical calculations, including technical math, analytic geometry and trigonometry.
D. Measures specified dimensions using a wide variety of devices; records manually or enters into computerized storage. (all plants). Inputs dimensional coordinates into CMM for computerized measurement recording. (LPC, Non-essential activity at SSBO).
E. Compares measurements to customer requirements, PCC and industry standards.
F. Prepares and reviews layout reports; describes measurements taken as needed.
G. Evaluates and analyzes measurement data with engineering departments.

2. Source Inspection

Objective: to review vendor inspection techniques to verify accuracy and completeness of vendor layout reports and calibrations.

Essential Job Functions:

A. Conducts source inspections at tooling and fixture vendors.

3. Calibration

Objective: To calibrate and adjust measuring devices, fixtures and gauges on scheduled basis; to maintain complete and accurate calibration records on dimensional measuring devices as required by PCC and customers specifications.

Essential Job Functions:
A. Calibrates and adjusts fixtures.
B. Calibrates and adjusts precision measuring tools.
C. Calibrates and adjusts gauges. (LSBO & SSBO only).
D. Acts as representative of PCC in customer and government audits of calibration program.
E. Maintains completed and accurate records of calibration results.

4. Safety

Objective: To take responsibility for and demonstrate safe work practices.

Essential Job Functions:
A. Adheres to plant and department safety rules.
B. Safely operates all equipment and tools
C. Identifies and reports safety problems.

5. Completes accurate logs and records

6. Meets all production and quality standards

7. Performs other tasks as assigned

5. Mechanical measuring devices (see qualifications)

Training:
1. Training is provided on the job.
2. Layout inspector certification
3. Knowledge and skill-based training required by the department of the plant as directed.

D. CS-122 Computer Applications
E. DR-35 Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerance
F. MT-36v Visual Inspection for Certification
G. MT-37v Dimensional Inspection for Certification
H. WR-21 Written Communication Skills
I. DR-199 Advanced Geometric Dimensioning & Toleracing/Aerospace Prints
J. MTH-80v/MTH 85v Technical Math I & II
K. MT-211,212,213 Layout I,II & III

2. Ability to identify and use the following mechanical measuring devices.

3. Ability to perform mathematical calculations through Algebra, Geometry and Trigonometry; ability to conceptualize abstract geometric relationships; applied understanding of math beyond trigonometry preferred.
4. Ability to read, interpret and follow complex, technical specifications found in Technique cards, Quality Control manuals and Quality Control instructions
5. Thorough knowledge of and competence in interpreting blueprints and solid understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
6. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
7. Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
8. Working knowledge of investment casting processes preferred.
9. Physical ability to perform the essential job functions.
10. Ability to map indications and sketch part features and segments neatly and accurately.

Major Plant Differences:

LPC may assign calibration of gauges and measuring tools to the Inspection analyst.
