Job Description
LAYOUT INSPECTOR
SUMMARY
This classification covers those employees who perform general and routine Layout inspection functions on castings to assure conformance of casting to customer requirements using predeter- mined inspection methods.
Functions and Responsibilities
- Works under close supervision and guidance performing inspection functions on non-critical castings following -established inspection procedures and methods.
- Performs simple set-ups of inspection equipment to implement inspection.
- Performs calibrations of M&TE (hand tools) and inspection fixtures following established inspection procedures and methods
- Inspects parts for dimensional compliance using basic inspection techniques.
- Transports castings into and out of area.
- Have basic knowledge of capabilities of CMM.
- Completes all necessary paperwork and records as required. Maintains daily inspection reports, logs, and time cards as required.
- Assists higher level inspection personnel as may be required.
- Reports any discrepancies, or out of tolerance condition, to Layout Supervisor.
- Follows established housekeeping and safety practices to maintain the quality of the working environment.
- Performs related work requiring equal or lesser skill as directed.
Normal Qualifications
Requires ability to read and write (legibly) and to follow written and verbal instructions, normally acquired by completing high school.
Requires ability to read and interpret simple inspection gages, such as calipers, micrometers, comparators, and so on.
Requires ability to perform basic mathematical calculations and have a firm understanding of decimals and fractions.
Requires ability to pass visual acuity and other required tests to meet minimum of position.
