Description

L3 Open Water Power is a rapidly-growing division of L3 Technologies Maritime Sensor Systems. We are pioneering power systems for underwater applications using our novel aluminum-water chemistry. These power systems will revolutionize the deployment and utility of underwater vehicles and sensors.

We are a small company of talented and curious engineers, scientists, and technicians who are focused on bringing our power systems to market. We operate in an agile, exciting, start-up environment supported by the larger L3 organization. Our work involves full design and development, ranging from fundamental science and chemical engineering to the manufacture and assembly of complete systems. We are looking for engaging, hands-on people to join our team. We focus on finding good teammates with a strong work ethic, an ability to share knowledge, and an interest in creative problem solving.

We are seeking a motivated and talented Junior Mechanical Engineer to work closely with senior engineers to accelerate the development of our technology across multiple applications. Our mechanical engineers design, build, and test the components and mechanical subsystems that make our power modules work. We face design challenges stemming from multi-phase fluid flow, thermal management, and operating at ocean depths.

The ideal candidate will be able to jump into a project and immediately make significant contributions in areas such as: structural design and analysis, fluid flow systems, mechanical / electromechanical actuation, electrical component interfaces, thermal management, and system dynamics. This is a position which requires independent thinking, creativity, diligence, and a strong grasp of engineering fundamentals. You will be helping us make our power systems reliable and robust. Junior engineers are encouraged to assume greater responsibility based on performance and interests.

Responsibilities:

* Design and analysis of components and subsystems for mission critical underwater power modules

* Creation of fabrication drawings & assembly instructions

* Design, set-up, and conduct testing to qualify prototype components and subsystems

* Work alongside manufacturing engineers & technicians to assemble first prototypes

* Participate in system and subsystem level design reviews

Qualifications

* Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or similar) with 1-3 years’ experience.

* CAD Proficiency (SolidWorks preferred).

* Solid understanding of standard machining processes & dimensioning/tolerancing.

* Experience with underwater systems/vehicles or power systems a plus.

* Validsecurity clearance a plus. Candidate must be a US citizen or green card hold

LOpen Water Power is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We encourage minorities, women, veterans and disabled individuals to apply. Any offer of employment is conditioned upon the successful completion of a background check and drug screen.
