ABOUT THE ROLE
Primary Purpose:
To be accountable for all support programmes and projects within the BU, formulating and implementing strategic objectives and providing leadership, direction and governance for the In Service Support Business Stream, also overseeing the development of new business opportunities and approving / guiding bids. To undertake cabinet duties and responsibilities as a member of the Business Unit Senior Management Team.

Duties and Accountabilities:
-Review and implement the mission and strategy of the Business Stream as part of the Land Systems Business Unit strategy within MADG. Participate in the Business Unit strategy development and business planning processes.
-Provide focus for, facilitate and enable business development activity associated with the Business Stream. Oversee, guide, enable and direct relevant bids, approving in line with appropriate level.
Undertake business development and marketing activities within and outside the company when self- or team-determined and / or in association with Marketing Executives. Participate in company-wide business development activity as and when appropriate.
-With Senior Finance Staff, develop the budgets for the Business Stream and contribute to the setting of the Business Unit budgets. Assess and provide financial forecasts for orders, sales, profit and cash for the Business Stream, feeding in to the Business Unit forecasts.
-Be accountable for, review and direct contract performance on the groups of contracts / projects within the business stream to ensure optimal financial results. Direct senior staff of cross-functional project management teams to ensure that robust management techniques are followed.
Review specific issues with teams / management and enable actions arising. Chair monthly Project/Contract Governance Reviews involving the Business Stream Programme and Customer Support Managers.
-Prepare Monthly Business Stream reports and KPI’s for the Managing Director’s reports into the MADG Board. Prepare and present to the MADG Executive at Quarterly Business Reviews
-Develop and lead, or facilitate and enable, programmes associated with continuous improvement and risk management within the Business Stream and, where appropriate, the wider Business Unit.
-Direct and act as line manager for senior staff (direct reports) with general management of their staff.
Set objectives and performance reviews. Demonstrate effective leadership, team building, decision making, communication and conflict management. Flow down accountability and monitor performance by setting and reviewing individual performance targets. Coach managers to improve competencies and depth of skills.

ABOUT YOU
Qualifications and Skills required for the role:
-Degree or Masters level technical qualification
-Degree or Masters level business qualification
-Well developed leadership skills
-Able to interact effectively with all levels of company staff and with customers, End users, suppliers and other organisations
-Excellent written and verbal communication to clearly express views and ideas.
-Ability to work and self-motivate under pressure.
-Ambition - Desire to improve (knowledge, further qualifications and contribution.)
-Good use of computer packages e.g. Word, Excel, Powerpoint and MS Project

Experience required for the role:
-Many years experience stemming from General and /or Project / Programme Management in Defence related industry or equivalent time in military / MOD with minimum of 5 years in industry.
-Experienced in running high value / strategic multi-functional projects in a matrix organisation, also with Senior Management Team plus operational and/ or business development and bid management experience.
-Well developed knowledge of business management systems, management accounts and strategic thinking.
