Group Safety Manager

Regional Express (Rex) is Australia’s largest independent regional airline operating a fleet of more than 50 Saab 340 aircraft on some 1,500 weekly flights to 60 destinations throughout New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia, Queensland and Western Australia.

Expressions of interest are sought for a suitably qualified and highly motivated person to become part of the Regional Express Human Factors Group based in Sydney as a full-time Group Safety Manager.

Reporting
This position reports to the General Manager Human Factors Group.

Position Responsibility
• Initiate, administer, manage and maintain the Rex Group Safety Management System (SMS).
• Facilitate risk assessments where necessary.
• Liaise with the GCQAM on the planning of the audit schedule and assist the safety assurance department through the SMS.
• Implement measures to drive SMS continuous improvement.
• Attend and present at the Safety Management Group (SMG) on all areas of group safety.
• Ensure, in association with Senior Management that the Safety Policy, SMS Goals and Objectives are current, relevant and are reviewed on a regular basis.
• Maintain and improve the Group on-line occurrence reporting system.
• Complete monitoring of the operating environment to ensure that it is consistent with the defined goals, objectives and regulatory requirements.
• Fill the role of Secretary of both the Rex and Pel-Air SMG.
• Carry out hazard identification and trend analysis.
• Promote safety awareness and a positive safety culture.
• Assist in emergency response planning.
• Promote the exchange of valuable lessons learned with other operators.
• Drive safety promotion throughout the Rex Group.
• Monitor the progress of reports and ensuring that hazards are addressed in a timely manner.
• Lead investigation of safety occurrences.
• Maintain safety documentation.
• Identify initial and recurrent safety training requirements to support the SMS.

Essential Selection Criteria
• Tertiary qualifications and experience in a relevant field such as Aviation, Safety Systems, Human Factors, WH&S or Risk Management
• Sound understanding of Aviation rules and regulations, and associated authorities.
• Excellent understanding of airline operations
• Operational experience is desirable
• Demonstrated ability to lead and influence within a high risk environment
• Demonstrated people management skills and experience
