FPGA Design Engineer / Digital Electronics Engineer

Cheadle, Manchester - 18 month contract - Pay rate £43 to £50 p/h Ltd

We are looking to recruit an FPGA Design Engineer to work for our client on a defence Sonar project. You shall be based in Cheadle, the duration is initially for 18 months but has scope to be extended beyond.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks

The role will include, but not be limited to the following activities:

  • To develop and agree a development plan with the team leader and then take responsibility for following the development plan and requesting assistance as needed.
  • To carry out design activities in a team environment with other engineers.
  • Work collaboratively with production and procurement to produce cost effective, easy to manufacture design solutions.
  • Provide support to the preparation of detailed estimates and bids.
  • Provide support to production as required.
  • Trials and integration support as required.
  • Provide off-site support as required.

Essential Requirements:

  • Proven ability with complex FPGA Design
  • Proven ability working in VHDL for Xilinix
  • General Electronic Engineering Skills and ability
  • General understanding of Engineering Development lifecycles
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Proactive "can-do" mentality
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Must have knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
  • The individual will be expected to demonstrate a level of autonomy
  • A logical approach to problem solving is required

Desirable:

  • Use of the following tools Questa Sim, HDL Designer, Vivado
  • Proven ability writing in embedded C
  • Network Design
  • Digital and Analogue Electronic Design
  • Understanding of Naval platforms.
  • The key areas of design undertaken for which previous knowledge would be beneficial will include:
  1. The design of sonar assemblies and equipment for the sub-sea environment.
  2. The design deployment systems
  3. Design and development of Hardware Engineering Products
  4. Design / specification of packaging solutions

Additional:

Please note, due to the sensitive nature of the project all candidates must be capable of gaining a UK MOD Security Clearance to SC level. The successful candidate will be able to start with a new application pending, so the SC need not necessarily already be in place.
