Key Accountabilities

Reporting to the Construction Compliance & Permits Office, this position is responsible for assisting the Construction Compliance & Permits Manager with the full scope of the Facility Alterations Permit (FAP) Process which includes: responding to inquiries, receiving & assessing application documentation to initiate the appropriate reviews, properly labeling and filing in ProjectWise all project related correspondence & documentation, preparing & issuing FAP Placards, coordinating Requests for Inspections and receiving & assessing final documentation for Occupancy requests.

* Responding in a timely manner to all general inquires received by the FAP Office via phone or email.

* Receiving, reviewing, assessing & processing with accuracy & consistency FAP application documentation to confirm & understand the full scope of work to determine if any additional information is required and to initiate the appropriate reviews (code and/or contractor’s safety compliance) in accordance with the requirements of the FAP Process and the Airport Construction Code in fulfillment of the CCPO’s responsibilities as the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) for all construction carried out on Airport Lands.

* Responsible for tracking the status of the FAP process for each application by maintaining CCPO’s FAP Status Spreadsheet up-to-date. Also throughout the process, responsible for properly labeling all project related emails and documentation received and filing them in the correct project folders in ProjectWise.

* Preparing & printing the FAP Placards once all the review confirmations as applicable are received; & then sending out the notification email to the project team that the FAP Placard has been issued with instructions of how they can pick it up.

* Assisting the CCPO Manager in responding to requests for inspection, confirming the availability of the applicable inspectors, for the date and time requested.

* Assisting the CCPO Manager in tracking and reviewing all submitted final documentation required as detailed in the CCPO Closeout Checklist for the issuance of the final Occupancy/Use Permit.

* Forming positive relationships with all communications with clients, consultants and contractors to establish an understanding of their needs, while conducting self at all times in support of the professional image of the GTAA.

* Providing support to the CCPO Department as may be required with any other duties that enable timely and effective processing objectives.

Qualifications

* Post-secondary technical training/education in a discipline related to commercial buildings/facilities design &/or construction of buildings and base building systems (i.e. architectural, structural, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, life safety) &/or an equivalent combination of education & experience applied in technical work related to the construction industry.

* ARchitectural, structural, HVAC, plumbing, electrical and/or life safety related licenses, certificates or designations that would be considered an asset include: Engineering Designation, Licensed Trade Certification, Technician Designation, or Technologist Certification.

* A minimum of two (2) years of technically-focused work experience in a construction and/or an engineering design environment.

* Previous work within an airport environment and understanding of airport processes, procedures & terminology would be considered an asset.

* Valid G Provincial driver’s license required.

* Must be able to obtain and retain a Level II Confidential Transportation Security Clearance.

* An appreciation and understanding of construction-related activities, processes and familiarity with facility &/or building construction elements and base building operating systems.

* Effective skills in problem solving, conflict resolution & creative thinking required to respond to challenging situations with tact and diplomacy.

* Ability to build relationships and work closely & cooperatively with internal/external stakeholders, clients, consultants & contractors.

* Attention to detail with the ability to accurately read & interpret technical drawings and specifications & correctly follow established processes.

* Ability to identify and effectively address and/or recommend solutions to potential technical issues that may arise

* Excellent interpersonal, time-management, communication and computer database skills.

* Ability to focus on & prioritize in-coming applications & correspondence emails to ensure that submissions are being processed in accurately and in a timely manner.
