Position Summary:

The Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) Manager is responsible for developing programs and training for all health and safety issues and for ensuring that the company remains in compliance with EPA, OSHA and other governmental health and safety standards and regulations. The EH&S Manager conducts investigations, audits, and facility inspections, monitors compliance with established standards and practices and analyzes data pertaining to injuries, health impairment, environmental impact and regulatory deficiencies to make recommendations for corrective actions. The EH&S Manager ensures accurate and complete EH&S reporting of metrics and closure of EH&S investigations, acts as a liaison with public and governmental authorities and directs actions during a crisis.

Duties and Responsibilities:

* Conducts regular audits, inspections and evaluations to ensure that the company remains in compliance with current environmental health and safety standards, regulations and industry best practices.

* Ensures that each facility follows current and evolving NFPA, EPA, OSHA, FAA, DOT and IATA/ICAO regulations and any other environmental health and safety standards and regulations.

* Trains and motivates people in environmental health and safety practices and behaviors.

* Identifies problem areas and works on process improvements.

* Collects, tracks, reports and analyzes key EHS performance data and metrics.

* Assists department managers in developing solutions to health and safety issues.

* Provides operational leadership for the EH&S Program.

* Maintains an inventory of products and components subject to HAZMAT and Dangerous Goods regulations.

* Monitors and reviews policies and procedures to maintain compliance (identification, classification, packaging, marking, labeling, and documentation) with regulations for the transportation of Dangerous Goods (DG).

* Provides day-to-day regulatory guidance on HAZMAT and Dangerous Goods packaging specifications, marking, labeling and shipping documents.

* Collaborates with all entities of the organization that are subject to NFPA, EPA, OSHA, DOT, IATA/ICAO and any other governmental EH&S regulations.

* Interfaces with vendors as well as local, state and federal officials to respond to questions or resolve issues relating to EH&S issues.

* Partners with Quality Assurance to assist with regulatory agency and other third-party audits related to the movement of dangerous goods.

* Conducts investigations of suspected irregularities related to EH&S incidents.

* Assists the Maintenance Department with the development and documentation of Hazardous Materials processes to ensure that corporate policies are complied with.

* Works with Maintenance Base Managers to ensure oversight of OSHA Hazardous Materials standards as well as EPA RCRA laws and regulations.

* Performs additional duties as required.

Qualifications:

* Bachelor’s Degree in a health and safety field preferred.

* Two years of relevant experience (or an equivalent combination of work and/or life experience, formal education, and/or on-the-job training).

* Baseline computer skills.

* Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, NFPA, IATA/ICAO Dangerous Goods & DOT Regulations.

* JHA experience required.

* Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with regulatory agencies and business leaders.

* Discretion with confidential or sensitive information.

* Capable of multitasking and working with changing priorities, deadlines and stakeholders.

* Ability to read, write and speak English and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

* Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

* Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or associates of CommutAir.

* Ability to understand and carry out written or verbal instructions.

* Ability to perform Root Cause Analysis, Risk Analysis and Safety Risk Assessment.

* Ability to conduct investigations, analyze data, determine root causes and develop mitigation techniques and corrective actions.
