Our Engineering Technicians are the jack of all trades. They layout, build, test, troubleshoot, repair, modify and more – talk about a new adventure every day! Our technicians assist our design engineers in developing and testing new circuits while also performing electrical circuit prototyping, breadboard construction and troubleshooting. When not “doing” something, they’re writing reports, maintaining project files, recommending improvements and, oh, so much more. We are looking for a full time Engineering Technician for our Aviation group at our headquarters in Olathe, Kansas.
As a Garmin Engineering Technician, you’ll be empowered to layout, build, test, troubleshoot, repair and modify developmental and production electronic circuits, equipment, and systems, perform electrical circuit prototyping, breadboard construction and troubleshooting, test and repair high density circuitry, and use common lab test equipment in testing and troubleshooting test failures, including equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzer, and logic analyzers. Other responsibilities include:

* Set up standard test apparatus or devise test equipment and circuitry to conduct functional, operational, environmental and life tests in order to evaluate performance and reliability of designs
* Adjust, calibrate, align, modify circuitry and components and record effects on unit performance
* Check and/or test functionality of newly installed equipment to evaluate system performance under actual operating conditions
* Write technical reports, including documentation of the test setup, block diagrams, and test setup schematics to fully document test results and analysis
* Work with various computer systems and programs to enter schematics, design circuit boards, enter bills of materials, and perform cost analysis of the products
* Recommend design improvements and changes in circuitry or assembly methods to improve reliability simplify assembly and maintenance
* Maintain project files and notebooks in an organized manner
* Maintain lab equipment and supplies needed for product development
* Perform environmental qualifications to DO-160B standards and report on the results
* Design and build test harnesses to support qualification and systems testing

Qualifications

An Associates Degree in Electronics Engineering Technology or Computer Engineering Technology from a technical/vocational institution or a four year college or university with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA OR a minimum of three years experience performing a role substantially similar to the essential functions of this job description are required. In addition, a minimum of 2 years development technician experience performing a role substantially similar to the essential functions of this job description is a must. Other requirements for this role include:

* Demonstrate strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
* Must be team-oriented, possess a positive attitude and work well with others
* Driven problem solver with proven success in solving difficult problems
* Excellent time management and follow-up skills

Candidates with a cumulative 3.5 or higher GPA, mechanical prototyping skills, and/or test software development experience are preferred.
