Overview:

The Innovation Project Engineer (Idea Incubator) supports existing programs and new business development by researching, developing and transitioning innovative technologies. Applies engineering principles in developing innovative solutions to challenging problems. Solutions are imaginative, thorough, practicable and consistent with organization objectives. Develops technologies to sufficient maturity level for use in new product or process. Emerging technologies span the manufacturing spectrum that includes design processes & tools, materials, manufacturing processes, tooling, equipment, inspection and prototyping. Research supports the design, fabrication and assembly of complex structures (for both Rapid Prototype and Development (New) Programs).

Provides guidance to Engineering regarding design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques. Supports program Integrated Product Teams. Works with vendors to develop new materials, equipment, tooling and processes.

Responsibilities:

Participate on or lead teams. Work with leadership to develop company strategy and technology roadmaps. Keep abreast of latest manufacturing and materials technologies while keeping an eye out for opportunities to improve existing operations. Focus on the future of manufacturing and develop concepts for Triumph factory of the future.

Engage integrated project teams to understand customer requirements. Work with peers, subcontractors and vendors to develop solutions to meet customer requirements. Lead development projects from planning through completion and delivery. Interface and coordinate tool design, fabrication and inspection of tooling manufactured by outside vendors. Analyze existing processes and make recommendations for improvements. Provide technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems. Work under general direction but independently plan, develop and analyze solutions.

Stay engaged with industry and academia through technical conferences and workshops. Support Triumph innovation and steering teams for engineering processes, additive manufacturing and advanced manufacturing. Generate patent applications as needed and participate on the Patent Committee.

The successful candidate has a bachelor’s degree in engineering and a minimum of 10 years of related experience. Desired candidate will have experience with composites and metals in a prototype production environment. R&D experience preferable. Ability to deal with ambiguity and changing customer requirements is a plus.
