Barnes Aerospace Lansing Division is currently seeking an engineering co-op student to join the Lansing team. The candidate will work directly with the engineering department and assist with day-to-day engineering activities, while getting hands-on experience in a multi-discipline manufacturing shop floor environment. The intent of this position is to teach a complete engineering skillset to the co-op over the course of the co-op program by having them directly contribute to the engineering and manufacturing teams from their first day on the job. This position reports to the Co-Op/Intern Supervisor.

Core Responsibilities:

* Assist with real time problem resolution and process change requests from the shop floor

* Create and modify work instructions and engineering sketches for manufacturing processes (such as laser, hot form, cold form, grinding, CNC machining, welding, chemical processes, heat treatment, abrasive blast, etc)

* Work directly with engineering, quality engineering and skilled laborers to identify tool and process design improvements

* Learn how to identify manufacturing requirements based on customer-supplied data (engineering drawings, CAD, and/or technical specifications)

* Assist with determining how to re-work non-conforming items

* Take on long-term projects to create lasting solutions to existing or anticipated issues

* Use technology and innovation to continuously improve manufacturing activities.

Qualifications:

* Experience with Microsoft Office products

* Excellent analytical, reasoning, and organizational skills

* Well-developed verbal and written communication abilities

* Experience in AutoCAD helpful but not required
