SUMMARY: Designs, develops, tests and evaluates integrated systems for managing industrial production processes including manufacturing equipment, quality control, facility management, cost analysis, and production coordination. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Uses Lean techniques to determine process standards and technology required to meet the quality and reliability objectives of finished product. As required by the business, works with various products, equipment and disciplines to increase production, quality, efficiency, volume and/or environmental suitability. Gathers, coordinates and applies basic engineering data using established and appropriate or defined engineering principles and procedures. Develops manufacturing methods, process routes, and cost analysis systems to promote efficient staff and facility utilization. Recommends methods for improving utilization of personnel, material and utilities. Plans and establishes sequences of operations to fabricate and assemble parts or products and to promote efficient utilization. Applies statistical methods and mathematical calculations to determine manufacturing processes, staff requirements and production standards. Coordinates quality control objectives and activities to resolve production problems, maximize product reliability, and minimize cost. Confers with vendors, staff and management personnel regarding purchases, procedures, product specifications, manufacturing capabilities, and project status. Drafts and designs equipment and tooling from concept to design package, using drafting tools and computer aided design. Reviews production schedules, engineering specifications, orders, and related information to obtain knowledge of manufacturing methods, procedures and activities. Patrols and monitors work areas, examining tools and equipment in order to detect unsafe conditions or violations of procedures or safety rules. Communicates with management and user personnel to develop production and design standards. Performs such individual assignments as supervisors and superiors may direct; ensures adequate and continuous controls are exercised over all assigned activities affecting quality; establishes and maintains effective work relationships within the department, the Corporation and the community; and maintains the professional competence, knowledge and skill necessary for the satisfactory performance of all assigned responsibilities. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE In depth knowledge of manufacturing engineering principles, techniques, methods, and is disciplined in their application. Experience in Lean Manufacturing preferred. Required: Bachelors degree in one or more of the engineering sciences or equivalent. Some of work time is spent standing, lifting, and bending. Works at telephone answering equipment, design equipment, and at a PC. Works within a manufacturing office setting and manufacturing plant setting. Occasionally exposed to heat, cold, wet, and fumes/chemicals. May be required to travel to vendors or customers sites.
