Our aviation product development team in Kansas City is hiring a full time Embedded Software Engineer to join our Radar team to support successful conception, development, simulation, testing, and maintenance of sophisticated avionics systems including, but not limited to, the aviation weather radar (GWX) and the aviation radar altimeter (GRA).

Garmin’s Aviation Software Engineers are responsible for the following:

* Conceive innovative ways to improve the functionality, safety, and/or efficiency of avionics systems
* Make system improvements by applying current technologies through research of emerging radar technologies
* Develop new algorithmic approaches to provide a competitive advantage for avionics systems
* Design, implement, and test embedded software for avionics systems
* Participate in support and maintenance of fielded systems, numbering in the thousands
* Assist in product design activities including electrical, software, or mechanical development

Qualifications

Qualified candidates for this role will possess a Master of Science Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Math or Physics or another relevant engineering/technical field AND a minimum of 3 years relevant experience OR Bachelor of Science Degree in any of the fields noted above AND a minimum of 5 year relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience with a cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0. Candidates will also demonstrate proficiency with designing architecture software systems and modules that support new technology or improve capability/performance of existing functionality and competence with researching fundamental problems and implementing appropriate algorithmic solutions. Demonstrated ability to serve as a lead software engineer for a complex software project and the ability to decompose functional requirements into well-defined tasks while balancing quality, quantity and complexity in work output are also required. Other requirements include:

Minimum of 2 years of experience performing a role that involves structured software programming in C or C++

Minimum of 2 years of embedded development experience

*

Demonstrated capability to offer peer technical assessments in areas of expertise, new technologies and software designs

*

Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills and superior analytical skills with keen attention to detail and quality

*

Must possess relevant experience and/or training in data structures or object oriented design methodology relevant to Garmin’s business needs

*

Must possess relevant education and/or experience in software design, development and maintenance, as required for the successful performance of the essential functions of the position

Preferred Qualifications

* 5 years of experience performing a role with C or C++
* Knowledge of weather radar theory
* Candidates that have experience with RTCA DO-178B software development and certification testing procedures, and or a Private pilot’s certificate are preferred.
