STS Technical Services is Hiring Electrical Product Engineers in Columbia, South Carolina!

Position Summary and Primary Responsibilities:

The ideal candidate will serve in a technical role in designing, documenting and supporting, standard and custom rail service equipment, functional systems, and production support for a variety of products working initially with simple components and will gradually take on more complex system designs. The ideal candidate will work with wide variety of product types while continuing to develop machine and system design experience.

* Responsible for supporting designing and documenting of system level requirements

* Supports system and component level DFMEAs

* Works in a diverse team environment to support the creation of component level and simple systems design and integrate them into a cohesive vehicle architecture

* Define system level requirements

* Responsible for system level target manufacturing cost

* Lead the system level feasibility, concept development and detailed engineering activities

* Lead system design reviews and issue resolution activities and participate in Vehicle level design reviews

* Responsible for system integration into the vehicle

* Analyze Change Requests & Implement Change Notices

* Maintain and create Product Structure / Bill of Materials (BOM)

* Responsible for creating electrical documentation, such as: Schematics, Control Box Assemblies, Wiring Charts, Cable Charts and Machine Interconnects

* Offer innovative solutions for cost reductions, quality issues, safety issues, etc.

* Create new and improve existing standard work procedures

* Frequent visits to the shop floor in order to work with Production to improve quality, manufacturability, cost, etc.

* Provide periodic status updates on projects

* Offer innovative solutions to technically complex problems

* May travel to customer locations, globally, to support product in field applications

Basic Qualifications:

A. Education

* Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology

B. Experience

* Level 2 – Minimum 7 years of heavy equipment product engineering experience

* Level 3 – Minimum 15 years of heavy equipment product engineering experience

* 10+ years of experience with CAD and PLM software

* E3, Solid Edge and Teamcenter experience preferred

* Experience of machine design in heavy mobile equipment

* Basic knowledge of Railroad specific standards and design practices preferred

* Knowledge of DC power with distributed I/O modules

* Knowledge of AC motors, drives, & power distribution

* Knowledge of manufacturing principles and processes

* Knowledge of Lean / Six Sigma

C. Interpersonal Skills

* The ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical data

* The ability to write in a clear and concise manner

* The ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from other departments

* Ability to actively participate in multi-disciplined functional teams

* Ability to communicate project status updates in a team environment

D. Technical Skills

* Computer skills: Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Outlook, Visual Basic

E. Other Skills

* The ability to effectively plan, organize and complete work with minimal supervision

* The ability to communicate complex technical information to other departments and functions

* Comfortable working in a matrix organization: The Electrical Design Engineer must be able to work effectively with employees at all levels in different departments on a daily basis

* Ability to incorporate and manage multiple formats into the complete product definition: vendor manuals, vendor data sheets, customer specifications, Harsco Rail specifications, 2D drawings, 3D models, mark-ups, verbal instructions, etc.

* Highly motivated to provide project deliverables on time and be able to establish priorities when multiple deliverables coincide

* Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment, and working with manufacturing personnel to address issues and implement design improvements

* Interest and ability to contribute to evolving work processes

Essential Functions:

* The ability to predictably and regularly attend work and to be punctual

* The ability to read and understand technical documents and drawings

* The ability to deal politely and professionally with customers, coworkers and suppliers

* The ability to perform several tasks at once and establish priorities

* The ability to follow direction or instruction

* The ability to use a computer to communicate, create, and access information

* The ability to travel via commercial airline and automobile up to 15% of the time
