Job Description

JOB TITLE: Maintenance Technician/Journeyman
Minimum Formal Education: High school graduate, GED, or as approved by supervisor.

Purpose & Nature To inspect, service, maintain and repair all mechanical and electrical equipment.

Machines, Tools, Wrenches, hammers, bars, screw drivers, pliers, gauges, calipers, micrometers,
Equipment & rules, or other measuring devices, forklift, miscellaneous power tools, chains,
Work Aids Used: slings, cutting torches. All usual types of machine tools common to the trade.

Work Environment

Primary Work Site: Shop Section – Area covered by a roof; sectioned off by walls and doors for
purposes of conducting operations support (e.g. administrative, precision skill)
duties. Environment is not climate-controlled.

Working Surface: Floor surfaces are generally concrete, may be uneven and/or have electrical cables, hoses, and railroad tracking throughout various areas.

Potential Hazards: Dust and sparks from burning/cutting equipment; obstacles on floor or ground
To step over or around; overhead cranes; wet or slippery floor surfaces. Flying objects such as chips and scale; cuts, bruises and fractures from operating equipment and adjusting moving machinery.

Temperature Factors: Moderate to extreme – Primary work environment subject to extreme heat and/or cold for intervals bur not extended periods of time. Cooled by natural ventilation and/or fans.

Noise Factors: Hearing protection required due to exposure to noise levels greater than 80 decibels.

Air Quality Factors: Potential exposure to dust, vapors and/or other air contaminants. Respirator may be required.

Mental & Visual Effort

High degree of concentration required due to volume and continuous operation, process, or exacting work. Fine
Coordination or accurate observation is required to prevent potentially fatal injuries or critical damage to products or
equipment.
