Electrical Designer
We are recruiting for an Electrical Designer. This role will report to the Electrical Engineering Lead in Telford with occasional travel to the alternative site in Washington, NE and suppliers within the UK. The role will support the system level electrical design activities required to integrate third party subsystems into military armoured fighting vehicles.
The activities performed by an Electrical Designer shall include, but are not limited to:
* Development of design material for the electrical installation of armoured fighting vehicle subsystems including
o Design specifications
o System wiring diagrams
o Harness diagrams and pin-out
o Electrical installation drawings
* Generation and maintenance of power budgets for 28V DC vehicle subsystems
* Development of vehicle based electrical power generation, conversion and distribution
* Application of Defence Standards for design of electrical equipment Def Stans 23-09, 61-05 and 59-41
* Ensuring adherence to the project earthing shielding policy
* Preparation of harness design specifications, component selection and supplier liaison
* Development of fault tolerant equipment with reversionary modes of operation
* Development of electrical protection systems
* Liaison with other functional departments and team members
* Requirements management and production of technical specifications
* Development and conduct of test/trials plans and procedures
* Consideration of safety, risk, reliability and maintainability associated with the technical solution, in conjunction with subject matter experts.
General Engineering Responsibilities:
* Provide engineering input to project submissions including cost estimating and project plans
* Generate progress reports and update task planning information and budgets
* Perform project activities as allocated by the Project Management team
* Produce and review engineering drawings, technical reports, meeting minutes and visit reports
* Develop material and attend design reviews
* Presentation of engineering material in internal stakeholders and customers
As a Electrical Designer your skills and qualifications will ideally include:
HNC/Degree qualified in a relevant engineering discipline with a minimum of 5 years engineering experience in a suitable engineering role.
Significant drive and energy, strong engineering skills, and the ability to deliver a diverse programme to demanding time, target cost and quality requirements are essential attributes to succeed.
Advantageous
* Knowledge and application of appropriate Defence Standards for military vehicles
* Use of software design tools such as Unigraphics NX, PTC Creo, GTX ImageCAD. Visio to produce layout schematics and electrical diagrams
* Knowledge of BS:8888 Drawing Standards
* Knowledge of BS/ISO 14617 Symbols for Schematic design
* Design and test for EMC in military environments
* Competent in the use of Enterprise Resource Management tools such as SAP
* Competent in the use of Product Lifecycle Management tools such as Teamcenter
* Competent in the use of Microsoft based products

The successful candidate must have strong written and verbal communication skills. You must work well in a team environment.
You must be familiar with a structured approach to the engineering design lifecycle involving conduct of formal design reviews.
Recognising the RESTRICTED nature of the work, suitable candidates will be SC cleared or eligible for this level of clearance.
