JOB DUTIES
Directs and coordinatEs activities of engineering departments to develop, design, manufacture, and test components, products and systems.
Serves as part of the business unit executive leadership team providing strategic direction for all business unit activities.
Directs engineering activities to develop and design new products, modify existing designs and release production schematics.
Oversees all development and production activities through project lead engineers and integrated project teams.
Responsible for meeting annual quality, schedule, cost and performance improvement goals as measured by engineering key performance indicators.
Represents the company through customer and vendor interactions as well as participation in various professional and industry forums.
Resolves engineering problems using solutions that involve new techniques, technologies or concepts.
Achieves optimum employee levels with least amount of overhead to meet annual budgetary plan.
Ensures compliance with Company standards for relevant worker and product safety as well as export compliance regulations.
Analyzes technology trends and market demand to plan new products.
Reviews and analyzes proposals submitted to determine if benefits derived and possible applications justify expenditures.
Approves and submits proposals considered feasible to management for consideration and allocation of funds.
Confers with management, production and marketing staff to determine engineering feasibility, cost effectiveness and customer demand for new and existing products.
Forecasts operating costs of department and directs preparation of budget requests.
Hires, develops and evaluates staff. Takes corrective action as necessary on a timely basis and in accordance with company policy. Ensures compliance with current federal, state and local regulations. Consults with Teammate Resources Department as appropriate.
Advises management of new developments which may affect profit, schedule, costs, customer relations and/or inter-departmental relations.
Provides direction and example for interpretation and application of company policies and procedures to the engineering activities.
Maintains a working knowledge of new technologies which may improve operations and develops recommendations accordingly.
Maintains a working knowledge of safety policies and regulation to ensure duties of self and others are performed in a safe manner.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and REQUIREMENTS
BS Engineering with a minimum of 15 years with a minimum of five years management experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
