Description

Position Purpose:

Reporting to the Group CoE Vice President or General Manager, or Group Director this position is responsible for multi-product family scope with high business complexity as defined by multiple products, customers and broad product mix. This position accomplishes objectives through leading a multi-disciplined team to achieve operational excellence in support of company visions, including On-time Delivery, Delivered Quality, productivity improvement/cost reductions, purchased goods quality and delivery and OEM and aftermarket lead-time requirements.

Essential Functions:

* Oversees the order fulfillment process through a group of leaders in a product family structure, which may include any of all of the following functions: Assembly and Test, Planning, Product Support Engineering, Assembly and Test Process Engineering, Tactical Purchasing (Supplier Management, Supplier Quality Engineer and Supplier Quality Techs) Product Quality Assurance/Black Belts and Stock room.

* Accountable for product family metrics and performance (Quality, Delivery, Responsiveness and cost)

* Responsible for product family budget, capital plans and staffing requirements

* Collaborates with, and may lead, multi-disciplined teams comprised of Systems Engineering, Development Engineering and Sales, Service and Marketing organization to optimize strategy and approaches to life cycle management, field reliability, customer issues and product improvement

* Accountable for product family maintenance and adherence to all related work instructions (i.e. safety rules, BDDS, etc.) and Documentation

* Primary representative for product family with internal and external customers and suppliers

* Coordinates strategy activities with other product families and operational units to meet top-level goals

* Implements continuous improvement to achieve departmental and company goals

* Ensures compliance with company policies and procedures

* Supports Quality System requirements: ISO 9001-2000, AS 9100, QS9000

* Accountable for financial performance (margins, operating earnings, inventory) through collaboration with sales and strategic purchasing organizations

* Works closely with Sales, Service and Marketing organization to synchronize customer requirements/demand, new product introduction and operations planning and production

* Leads talent management initiatives (development plans, succession planning, performance management)

* Participates as a key member of the CoE Leadership team

* Enlists support from external departments as needed (i.e. development engineering, manufacturing engineering, HR, finance, etc)

* Participates in the Product Life Cycle process including

* Independent Research & Development

* Platform Development

* Proposals

* Business Cases Analysis

* Product Design and Development

* Production Aftermarket Support.

* Participates in or leads proposals of product design

Other Functions:

May participate in business group or enterprise-wide projects.

Qualifications

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

* Strong Operations focus; proven ability to lead and manage one or more product families with the following attributes:

* Six Sigma Methodology

* Successful track record in a LEAN manufacturing environment

* Stringent quality standards

* Progressive/contemporary operational concepts and practices

* Multi-functional background (i.e. engineering, operations, sales, marketing, project management, materials management)

* Ability to design and implement operational strategy

* Thorough understanding of applicable quality system requirements: ISO 9001-2000, AS9100, QS9000

* Strong financial ability

* Solid leadership skills

* Excellent verbal and written communication skills

* Effective interpersonal skills with all levels throughout the Organization:
* Able and willing to change the status quo and effectively champion change, both internal and external to assigned product family

* Solid understanding and application of process concepts and process control

* Ability to facilitate and coordinate problem-solving activities internal and external to product family

* Excellent organizational skills; appropriate prioritization and delegation to meet product family goals.

* Understands, supports and leads the implementation of LEAN manufacturing techniques (waste elimination, parts flow and pull) and Six Sigma methodologies.

* Self motivated and results oriented

* Possesses understanding of business model, strategic goals and operational relationships to develop appropriate goals and objectives.

* Ability to understand the total business picture and effectively collaborate with other business functions

* Able to travel as required

Education or Formal Training:

* Undergraduate degree required

* MBA desired

* Formal Six Sigma training desired

Experience Required:

* Minimum 7 years of prior product family leadership experience in manufacturing environment.
