Dimensional Inspector

Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY: Position inspects castings to established dimensional and visual requirements; decides if castings conform to dimensional and visual requirements and are acceptable for further processing.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Assure that castings are in a condition suitable for inspection, verifies that paperwork is complete and matches casting.

• Establish an order that ensures all required dimensions are checked. Inspect castings with all types of measuring devices as required such as micrometers, calipers, dyers, etc.

• Establish an order and method for inspecting castings surfaces. Inspect all surfaces to specified visual criteria.

• Communicates inspection results by marking casting and filling out travelers, rework travelers and discrepancy tags.

• Safely operates all equipment and tools; adheres to safety rules and report safety problems.

• Perform other related duties as assigned by management.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• High school diploma or equivalent

• Requires a thorough knowledge of inspection principles.

• Must be competent in all types of measuring devices.

• Strong blueprint reading and math skills are required.

• Must have the ability to work closely with engineering and management.

• Must be able to work varying shifts and overtime.

• Ability to exert up to fifty pounds of force to move objects

• Ability to work in conditions which may include exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and varying temperatures.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Requires a High School diploma or equivalent. Strong inspection background is preferred.

PHYSICAL DIMENSIONS:

Ability to exert up to fifty pounds of force to move objects. Ability to work in conditions which may include exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and varying temperatures.
