As a Design Engineer in our Space & Defense Group you are responsible for development of complex hydraulics, electro-hydraulic, electro-mechanical, servo-rnechanisms and electro-pneurnatic components and systems that will become the new products of Moog, Inc. This position is responsible for design and development of new technologies, products/and/or processes to meet cost, schedule and performance goals. You will plan and conduct efforts requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of standard and nonstandard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria. You will independently devise new approaches for problems encountered, and plan and coordinate the work of others. Here’s what you’ll work on: * Apply technical expertise, commensurate with formal training and job experience in the design and development of products and processes. * Logical and practical application of new and existing technology, extensive analysis and computer simulation studies. * Review new customer specifications and prepares technical proposals and cost information to permit sound cost proposals. * Conduct feasibility and trade studies to determine a basis for sound design decisions. * Make recommendations on proposed projects as to their technical merit and feasibility. * Ensure that assigned projects meet the required production release dates and follow up as required to support production during the manufacturing phase. * Initiate design reviews with other functional groups to insure that the product/project meets overall requirements. * Prepare details necessary to plan, schedule and cost‑out a product or project. * Prepare technical reports and summaries of product performance, reliability, failure modes, development and qualification testing. * Supplies the pertinent information required for generation of acceptance tests or unique process/assembly procedures. * Establish and maintain a personal self‑improvement program to keep abreast of advances in applicable methods, techniques or innovations. * Maintain currency with materials technology, industry design requirements (Military, FAA, NASA, etc.), and modern design analysis tools. Qualifications: * BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering and 6 years’ experience in creating successful designs of electrohydraulic, electromechanical, mechanical and/or electropneurnatic servornechanisms and their control electronics, required. * Broad background in design analysis, including stress analysis, kinematics, strength of materials, fluid mechanics, and vibration is essential. * Experience with closed loop systems, hydraulics, electro-hydraulic, electro-mechanical, servo-rnechanisms, fracture mechanics and Computer Aided Design, desired.
