Description

Position Purpose:

This position reports to the Vice President or a Director. The purpose is to provide leadership with a Lean/Six Sigma focus resulting in the deployment of proven CI methods and tools resulting in measurable and sustained improvement of QDRC across various business processes (e.g. PLC process, Woodward Lean Enterprise System (WLES), product quality or supplier quality) within in several value streams.

Essential Functions:

* Creates vision and architects the lean roadmap for an entire segment of the business.

* Drives a strategic mindset and commitment to continuous improvement across the operation (i.e. defines improvement goals, establishes accountability through QDRC metrics, uses Lean/Six Sigma tools and techniques to continually improve processes and business results, and establishes a mindset within operations to document and control processes; promotes safety and housekeeping; uses facilitative leadership). Cooperative development of Lean Strategies across the CoEs, between business segments, with suppliers and with other functional areas (e.g. Production Engineering, Development Engineering, and Manufacturing)

* Improves processes throughout the CoE or business segment. (This may include product manufacturing/assembly, product testing, shipping and delivery of finished goods, and transactional activities). Utilizes the department to support the various processes within the CoE. This may include the development of new products derived from the PLC (Product Life Cycle) process.

* Accountable for paradigm shifts for “game changing” systems implementations.

* Provide leadership to direct reports (or have dotted line relationship) by leading, managing, supporting and coaching members ensuring continual development of competencies.

* Develop and maintain an appropriate organization structure to support the process improvement function that is aligned with the business segment, CoE and Company alignment grids, strategies, T-MAP, etc.

* Plan and manage resources to profit plan and capital plan.

* Influence and drive other CI organizations across Woodward in the alignment of the CI, Lean/Six Sigma philosophies and methodologies and overarching best practices that is impactful and current with "Best in Class" industry practices.

Other Functions:

* Works across CoEs and business segments to conceive and implement lean continuous improvement value streams to enable the operability of the WLES process.

* Stays abreast of current continuous improvement trends and methodologies.

* Engages across functional departments providing expertise and manpower to the extent possible when process improvement is required.

* May be responsible for driving effective organization containment and corrective action processes to support product or quality system failures.

* In some locations, may be a focal point for Production Engineering and development activities including PLC Expert and WLES Expert may have direct or dotted line relationship.

Qualifications

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

* Proven change agent and influence, both internal and external functional areas.

* Proven ability to architect and implement integrated solutions for breakthrough continuous improvement across a complex set of value streams.

* Excellent oral and written communication skills

* Proven ability to architect and lead vision and strategy for process improvement through lean/six sigma initiatives and gain active alignment support for that strategy by all organizational stakeholders.

* Demonstrates ability to attract, lead, coach, motivate, and develop others.

* Demonstrates a deep understanding of organizational structure ensuring engagement and active support of functions and members within the business system as necessary to achieve business goals.

* Solid understanding of statistical concepts and methods to ensure appropriate application and analysis of data.

* Understanding, supporting and leading the implementation of LEAN Manufacturing techniques (waste elimination, parts flow and pull) and Six Sigma methodologies.

* Formal problem solving skills such as Tachuchi, DOE, 8D, etc.

* Expert understanding of lean manufacturing and ability to architect complex lean value streams.

* Master of time management and running multiple project management activites.

* Ability to travel to suppliers, other locations within Woodward, and customers as required to fulfill the needs of the organization (domestic and international).

* Practical and results oriented.

* Ability to work effectively within a matrix structure.

Education or Formal Training:

* Bachelor of Science in management or a technical field required

* Masters of Science in management or technical field, or International equivalent, preferred

* Greenbelt certification required

* Blackbelt strongly preferred but must be obtained within 12 months of entering the role.

Experience Required:

* 8 years of professional experience in a manufacturing environment or a branch of the military

* Demonstrated success in implementing Lean/Six Sigma concepts

* Prior leadership experience in a manufacturing environment preferred
