Certification Engineer

L3 Aviation Products Division (L3 APD), is a leading provider of commercial and military avionics with unsurpassed performance, quality and customer support. L3 APD manufactures a diverse line of safety- and efficiency-enhancing products that set the standard for next-generation requirements, including configurable voice and data recorders, collision avoidance systems, navigation products, display systems and processors.

Responsible for planning and leading avionics certification activities at L3, coordinating internal project certification teams, and serve as a subject matter expert for certification activities. Manage the certification process while leading the continuous improvement process for this area. Represents L3 to global certification authorities..

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

Develop well organized project certification proposals, project specific certification plans and project certification schedules

*

Develop efficient and accurate certification approaches and compliance requirements for equipment installations on 14 CFR part 23/25/27/29 aircraft modifications

*

Assist in the preparation and verification of FAA certification documents.

*

Coordinate with customers to understand and meet their expectations

*

Participate in cross-functional teams as a subject matter expert in the avionics certification process

*

Keeps management informed of area activities, changes in competitive conditions, and significant problems

*

Completes required reports and records accurately and promptly

* Assist support with technical issues and questions

*

Regular attendance due to face to face interaction with teams, clients, and other employees along with the use of on-site equipment

* Actively involved in industry groups: GAMA, RTCA, AEA

*

Represent L3 interest in FAA policy changes, directly with the FAA and with industry groups

*

Overseeing customer certification processes related to development and sustaining engineering activities

*

Coordination of certification aspects of customer delegated design authority, signatory control, and associated.

Qualifications

* Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or technical field

*

4 years related experience, and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience

*

Familiar with Federal Regulations, Orders, and Advisory Circulars

*

Previous FAA product certification experience

*

Strong organizational and analytical skills with attention to detail

*

Ability to build consensus and guide an outcome.

*

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the complex documents

*

Proficient with Microsoft Office products

Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities)

FAA Systems and Equipment DER (Electrical Equipment)
