Job Role:

Assists the lead person in directing the maintenance activities of assigned personnel. Coordinates and directs maintenance efforts with other mechanics, the lead person, Maintenance Operations Center (MOC), and Management to ensure the timely return of aircraft to mission-capable status. Applies senior-level expertise in the maintenance of assigned aircraft. Performs dock chief duties.

Performs inspection, maintenance, and troubleshooting tasks on aircraft systems and components. Informs the lead person of discrepancies, repairs, and possible delays. Requests and schedules specialist support as necessary. Uses and ensures technical data is employed in all aspects of aircraft maintenance. Makes IMDS updates. Annotates maintenance actions in aircraft records and is proficient in IMDS documentation. Ensures that all necessary documentation is completed as required by Air Force and company directives. Performs scheduled/unscheduled maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and operational checks of all aircraft systems as necessary. Is certified to rig flight controls, throttles, canopies, and landing gear. Within qualifications, conducts inspections of aircraft and system maintenance to ensure quality and completeness. Operates ground support equipment and uses special tools/fixtures applicable to maintenance of assigned aircraft. Performs all tasks necessary to return aircraft to mission-capable status. Practices good housekeeping, tool control, FOD awareness/prevention, and safety at all times. In coordination with the section supervisor and the training specialist, provides on-the-job training of employees and evaluation of employee qualifications. Reviews aircraft records to ensure required maintenance has been performed, hourly and calendar tracked events are current, and that all associated documentation has been completed. May be required to be qualified on different MDS aircraft. Must acquire and maintain engine run certification on designated assigned MDS. Must promote Company values, policies, and standards of conduct. Must be customer oriented and ensure professional coordination with Operations and other base agencies. Shall assist other personnel and work centers as directed. Shall perform other duties assigned to include TDY and travel. Receives cross-utilization training and is qualified to perform maintenance those tasks. Must be able to work day shift, night shift, or weekend duty as required.

Qualifications

Must possess an in-depth knowledge of the assigned aircraft. A thorough working knowledge of applicable technical publications is required. High school diploma or the equivalent is required. Specialized aircraft maintenance courses are required. The ability to read and interpret technical data and special operating instructions is required. Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English. A minimum of four years recent experience at the qualified mechanic level on the specific MDS is required. Completion of a military or civilian aviation maintenance school and possession of a diploma or certificate of completion are required. In lieu of formal training, a minimum of eight years recent experience in aviation maintenance as an aircraft mechanic or equivalent is required. Completion of Air Force 3 Level CDC Aircraft Mechanic Course or equivalent is desired. The ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, is required. Leadership ability is required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a flight line drivers license and may be required to obtain and maintain a class CDL. Must be able to obtain system Red X certification. Physical exertion requirement is medium.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to climb ladders, stairs and portable stands and navigate these without assistance. Must be able to work at heights 70 feet above the ground. Must be able to work in extreme heat/cold.

Must be able to work in the following environmental conditions: noise, vibration, proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, chemicals, odors, dust. Must be able to bend, reach, stoop, balance, push, pull, kneel, grasp, crouch, crawl, work in narrow aisles/passageways, and work in close spaces that restrict movement including aircraft fuel tanks for extended periods of time.

Must be able to stand for sustained periods of time. Must be able to work primarily with fingers such as picking, pinching, typing. Must have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication parts at distances close to the eyes.

Must be capable of routinely performing industry standard ambidextriosities required to complete tasks. Must be able to lift/maneuver up to 50 pounds. Must be able and willing to enter and work in confined spaces, such as aircraft fuel tanks and beneath floor panels with clearances of 18” – 24”.
