Description
Position Purpose:
Inspects and calibrates a large variety of gages per prescribed standards/specifications and work instructions, issues/and returns gages to/from manufacturing areas, assembly and test and other support areas. May make decisions in case of variations to the usability of gages from a functional standpoint, usually in conjunction with an engineer. May determine and devise detailed calibration procedure/work instructions.
Essential Functions:
* Performs dimensional calibration with precision measuring devices (laser ruler, Mahr gage, air columns, etc.) in addition to visual inspection.
* Verifies documents.
* Maintains files (gage certifications, purchasing documents, etc.)
* Picks up and delivers gages.
* Routinely learns new inspection techniques.
* Documents non-conformances (significant out-of-tolerance).
* Records calibration results in WISE system.
* Performs data collection and reporting.
* Writes calibration plans and procedures.
* Interprets engineering tool drawings and specifications; uses statistical process control techniques.
* Trains level 1 metrologist in calibration techniques and department procedures.
* Understands and obeys all department safety rules.
* Contributes to team goals and planning with process and procedural improvements.
* May have duties and responsibilities to act as an authorized agent for a specific customer or customers. The description of those duties and procedures for qualification are established by each customer on a case-by-case basis
Working Environment / Physical Activities:
* Participates in a regular 40-hour/week work schedule, although night shift, overtime and weekend coverage may be required.
* Work generally performed in a production environment with possible exposure to noise and chemical solutions.
Qualifications
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
* Computer skills necessary: WISE, e-mail, word processing, spreadsheets and EDS authoring.
* Shows good written and verbal communication skills and willingness to work in a team environment.
* Manages workload and priorities.
* Work requires hand/eye coordination, as well as the ability to perform lifting up to 30 pounds.
Education or Formal Training:
* High School graduate or equivalent with a minimum of one year related experience.
