Job Summary
General Atomics Systems Integration, LLC (GA-SI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a provider of military and commercial engineering services. GA-SI is a leading-edge expert in systems integration technologies, reliability improvements, and controls system design.
We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Lead Avionics Technician in our Aero Services division to support MQ-1 Gray Eagle operations at Fort Huachuca, in Sierra Vista, Arizona. This position also must be able to deploy both CONUS and OCONUS in support of Company projects. As a skilled specialist, this position provides leadership to a team responsible for fabricating, modifying, installing, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining ground, airborne, and electronic equipment such as unmanned aerial vehicles, ground control stations, and ground support equipment in accordance with established technical specifications, engineering instructions, technical orders, and procedures. The Lead will perform work involved in routine and non-routine disassembly, repair, assembly, testing, and maintenance of electrical systems, equipment, and accessories.

Duties and Responsibilities
* Coordinate the activities of personnel who operate UAV, ground control stations and ground support equipment at assigned location. Compiles and analyzes flight data, and conducts briefings on findings.
* Schedule maintenance and inspections on systems and equipment.
* Recommend procedure changes to improve maintainability and timely inspections.
* Provide technical support and troubleshooting for unmanned aerial vehicles, ground control stations, and ground support equipment.
* Provide creative solutions to complex technical issues.
* Participate in the development of department policies, procedures and standards.
* Participate in the development of training materials and training of personnel.
* Represent group with all levels of personnel, including senior management and senior internal and external customers.
* Develop electronic and hardcopy reports and records, and gives internal presentations as required.
* Provide direction, guidance and training to less experienced staff.
* Supports repairs, testing, and operation of Gray Eagle unmanned aerial vehicles, ground control stations, ground support equipment and associated electronic equipment at facilities as assigned requiring long periods of standing, walking, bending and lifting up to 50 lbs.
* Participates in ground control station power up, ground checks, maintenance, aircraft recovery, status debriefing, repair and documentation of repairs and status.
* Corrects minor discrepancies by removal, repair, or replacement of defective or deleted parts of aircraft electrical systems.
* Performs limited functional checks on existing and newly installed aircraft electrical systems and equipment.
* Operates automatic test equipment to locate, diagnose, and repair defective parts. Performs routine inspections on systems and equipment.
* Fabricates, upgrades, routes, and installs wiring harnesses.
* Disassembles, assembles, and adjusts electronic equipment.
* Interfaces with engineering, manufacturing, and other disciplines of UAV operators, Army personnel and civilian customers when required.
* Assists in the troubleshooting, component removal and replacement, testing and documentation in accordance with customer regulations when applicable, utilizing approved technical publications, maintenance standards, and approved procedures.
* Interfaces with site team leaders, supply personnel, Airframe and Powerplant mechanics and UAV pilots.
* Provides support as required to the UAS training center maintaining UAV training assets and systems.
* Performs other duties as assigned or required.
* Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company. Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.

Job Qualifications

* Typically requires education or formal training equivalent to the completion of a two-year technical degree or trade school equivalency and eleven or more years experience with unmanned aircraft systems. Equivalent professional experience may be substituted in lieu of education. Must be able to perform a variety of complex technical tasks and demonstrate extensive knowledge of avionics and electronic procedures and principles.
* Must possess:
* Ability to provide creative solutions to unusually complex problems.
* Extensive knowledge and use of electronic test equipment, hand and soldering tools, voltage or amperage measuring and recording devices.
* Ability to read, interpret and explain complex blueprints, drawings, schematics and technical orders;
* Ability to obtain a security clearance.
* Excellent analytical, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to accurately document, report and assess situations and make judgments.
* Strong computer skills.
* Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
* Ability to work both independently and lead in a team environment is essential as is the ability to work extended hours and travel as required.

* Experience handling HAZMAT, AES, IATA, and COMSEC material is desirable.
* Ability to pass a Deployment Medical Examination.
* Ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret clearance is required.
