This mechanical engineer will work as part of an engineering team to develop mechanical design solutions for electronics cabinets used in naval applications. Tasks may involve new designs or modifications to existing designs. The individual will be expected to work collaboratively with mechanical engineers as well as representatives from Manufacturing, Quality, Drafting and other engineering disciplines. The candidate must be proficient with the use of personal computers including word processing and spreadsheets and in documenting work performed for review and archiving. Examples of any previous work that demonstrates the ability to understand and meet design requirements, scheduled milestones and budgets is a must. Knowledge of computer design and analysis tools, especially PRO/E and ANSYS and experience working in a design for manufacturing environment are desirable.
Basic Qualifications:
Mechanical (Design) Engineering:
- Strong CAD skills (PRO-Engineer (CREO) or equivalent)
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Strong problem solving skills.
Familiarity with MS Office Suite.
Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DoD security clearance.
Desired Skills:
Experience designing equipment for naval applications, including inboard and outboard electronics, undersea hull array, towed array, or acoustic sensor programs
Experience using ANSYS finite element analysis tools
Knowledge of and experience with additive manufacturing
Experience with environmental qualification testing of hardware for Navy applications
Experience with design optimization tools for weight reduction
Small team leadership experience
Cost and technical proposal experience
- Structural or Thermal Analysis experience
- Working knowledge of material properties
- Working knowledge of additive manufacturing techniques and design
- Knowledge of GD&T
- Experience with electronics packaging for military applications
