Come join Garmin’s team of talented engineers designing and certifying world-class avionics in the beautiful Pacific Northwest! We are looking for an Aircraft Systems Engineer in Salem, Oregon that will focus on fixed wing and rotorcraft helicopter flight controls. As an Aircraft Systems Engineer 2, you will work with product development teams on new products, solve difficult engineering problems, and work toward certification for installation of Garmin avionics in various aircraft.

In this role, you will

* Assist in the development of detailed systems requirements for flight control systems including system performance, system interfaces, and architecture
* Write technical documentation such as Interface Control Documents, Installation or Maintenance data, system test plans and reports.
* Demonstrate a strong background and experience in application of classical control theory to aircraft or other complex dynamic systems.
* Review algorithms, models, and simulation for aircraft control systems
* Work closely with hardware and software engineering teams as well as flight test to drive successful implementation of designs on various aircraft
* Work with system safety design concepts as they apply to flight control systems, redundancy, and monitoring
* Communicate and understand risks with complex avionics system integration architectures
* Demonstrate familiarity with modern avionics and aircraft systems

Qualifications

Qualified candidates possess a Master of Science Degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Math, Physics, or Mechanical Engineering OR a minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience AND Bachelor of Science Degree in any of the fields noted above from a four-year college or university OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. Other requirements include:

* Experience using MATLAB or Simulink design tools
* Knowledge of 14 CFR Part 27 / 29
* Demonstrates understanding of system architectures and the effects on the control system
* Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
* Pilot’s license or demonstrated knowledge of piloting skills and procedures is a plus
* Experience with flight dynamics is preferred.
