Praxair Inc., has an open position for a Turbomachinery Commissioning Engineer in their Turbomachinery Department in Tonawanda, New York.At this location Praxair employs over 1000 people in New Plant Engineering and Design as well as the Research and Development activities for new Processes and Machinery.

The Turbomachinery Department is an internal supplier that designs, builds, installs, and maintains highly customized turbomachinery (radial expansion turbines, turbine boosters, and multi-stage centrifugal compressors) for our air separation plants around the globe.
  
Responsibilities:

* Participates in defining engineering approaches and in planning and prioritizing work related to turbomachinery commissioning and other assigned tasks.

* Selects and implements engineering techniques and solutions to solve difficult problems.

* Independently evaluates, analyzes and approves new turbomachinery installations prior to commissioning including:

* Evaluation of pipe stresses and oil flush

* Completion of process and instrumentation walk-throughs including plant process, program logic control (PLC) and distributed control system (DCS)  reviews

* Setup and checkout of instrumentation

* Equipment alignment and high speed coupling balancing

* Data logging and logic checkout

* Works with field teams on turbomachinery equipment issue identification, analysis and repairs (including turbines and compressors) at new and previously commissioned global customer sites.

* Collaborates with more experienced engineers to provide technical and engineering assistance on defined problems.

* Reviews and checks project specific drawings and data sheets to ensure compliance with design criteria and standards.

* Writes engineering specifications for lube oil systems, process coolers, couplings and skid packages.

* Performs engineering calculations as required including vibration analysis.

* Creates operational logic procedures and operating manuals for turbomachinery contracts.

* Learns and provides feedback on global engineering work processes.

* Interfaces with internal and external customers/suppliers and performs equipment checkout at sub-vendor facilities.

* Quickly learns and applies new concepts, skills and knowledge to assigned tasks.

* Ensures successful completion of assigned project phases within the budgeted time and cost constraints.

* Provides teammates with input on commissioning so that they can make accurate design and execution decisions.

* Actively participates in project team meetings and project decisions.

* Prepares appropriate documentation, reports and summaries to communicate 

Qualifications

Qualifications

* Bachelors Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology. Most common degree is in Mechanical Engineering. Prior engineering internship or co-op experience is strongly preferred. A candidate with an Associates Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology with directly related experience in the turbomachinery field may be considered.

* Demonstrated experience and mechanical aptitude/skills with basic hand tools, machinist tools for measuring (micrometers, dial indicators, etc), machinery alignment, rigging/lifting equipment, and basic use of electrical meters/calibrators.

* Demonstrated technical writing skills.

Preferred/Plus:

* Experience with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) / (DCS)

* Experience with turbomachinery

SPECIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Requires moderate lifting and carrying, 15-45 pounds. Occasional climbing with use of legs and arms. Position requires 50+% travel to national and/or global Praxair offices or plants.
