Overview

Trainee Tax Specialist: To specialise in indirect tax within the aviation industry and support the business in improvements to our tax recording, control and reporting.

Responsibilities

As Trainee Tax Specialist, you will be a key member of the business working closely with the Tax manager and Director of Financial Reporting and Control. You will take a technical role in supporting the preparation and accuracy of indirect tax submissions and in ensuring compliance in all the regions where we transact business.

Person Specification

The opportunity

You will gain a detailed knowledge of Tax through training, both external training and from within the Tax team. This role will focus on indirect tax where a detailed knowledge of the requirements, system and postings will be gained. Focusing on accuracy and compliance this role will give you the opportunity to work with multiple departments to ensure best practice is adhered to.

You will be part of a vibrant Finance team focussed on continuous improvement and passionate on delivering timely and accurate information. This role will report into the Tax manager.

Your mandate;

1. Deliver accurate and timely indirect tax returns:
1. Support the preparation of indirect tax returns on a monthly and quarterly basis.
2. Identification and review of items and invoices outside of expected parameters.
3. Support the correction of errors within the business to ensure accurate reporting.
4. Ensuring the General Ledger reconciles to the open indirect tax position and ensure the corrections highlighted are actioned.
5. Supporting indirect tax queries and resolutions.

2. Supporting improvements to ensure errors are kept to a minimum:
1. Identifying areas to be improved.
2. Leading tax projects across the business to ensure best practice is instilled.
3. Supporting training of departments to highlight the need and impact of indirect tax.
4. Support ad hoc queries relating to indirect tax, thus supporting the tax manager and the wider Finance teams.
5. Progress in external studies to support and improve internal processes and control.

3. Develop Key Performance indicators for the role’s key responsibilities which can demonstrate consistent improvements, identify risks and issues and be a catalyst for continual improvement:
1. Develop reporting measures to assist the Business in understanding the performance of this role.
2. Deliver timely reporting on the roles key performance indicators on a regular bases.
3. To ensure our internal accounting processes and procedures are operating effectively.
