Parker Hannifin Corporation seeks a Sr. Principal Engineer in Irvine, CA.

Summary of Duties:
Research and carry out the most complex or innovative engineering assignments requiring the development of new or improved methods, techniques and procedures. Contribute to and has responsibility for completion of significant special assignments with broad product, technology investment and integration, customer and strategic impact. Essential functions are as follows:
1. Develop complex new or refined equipment, materials, processes, products, concepts and/or scientific methods by applying advanced theories, concepts, principles, and processes for assigned area. Evaluate costs, available resources, time limitations, company planning, and other technical and economic factors. Promote the advancement and effective utilization of technology in products and processes.
2. Provide comprehensive expert technical information concerning manufacturing or processing techniques, materials, properties, and process advantages and limitations which affect long range plant and product engineering strategic planning by carefully analyzing and applying advanced engineering principles.
3. Communicate and coordinate directly with other senior technical representatives of suppliers, customers, government, or general program information and specific technical issues. Reach agreement on areas of technical issues as prudent for division and product offerings. Serve as primary contact on product capabilities and future efforts.
4. Conduct analyses and/or tests pertaining to the development of new designs, methods, materials or processes and completes required documentation by determining required and profitable actions, performing or directing completion of tasks, and publishing findings and/or results.
5. Compile and analyze operation, test, and research data to establish performance standards for newly designed or modified equipment or products. Assess the feasibility and soundness of proposed engineering evaluation tests, products, or equipment when necessary data are insufficient or conformation by testing is advisable. Develop and review acceptance engineering evaluation development and qualification/certification test plans, procedures and reports.
6. Investigate, researches, and operationalizes new technologies in specialty or related areas to improve cost and performance by applying advanced engineering design methods, theories, and research techniques.
7. Apply and lead continuous improvement initiatives through the development of new engineering technology, product development, analytic tools, and key production principles and techniques.
8. Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending advanced-level educational workshops, reviewing technical and research publications, and/or participating in professional associations.
9. Comply with Parker policies and aerospace industry regulations. Consistently apply established engineering practices, standards, and documentation methods.
10. Plan, conduct and direct research and/or development work on problems or assignments, generally involving the larger and most complex projects or multiple projects. Review progress and evaluate results. Recommend major changes in procedures. Establish goals and objectives to carry out programs or functions by coordinating efforts within and across divisions.
11. Act as consultant to top management on significant issues. Provide technical leadership to others in integrated product development teams. Responsible for directing and monitoring the work of team members.
12. Serve as technical subject expert and resource. Share specialized knowledge with others and ensures knowledge transfer on technologies and products. Represent the organization in outside discussions and technical forums. Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. Work assignments include cross-functional or project team responsibilities (e.g. continuous improvement).
13. Can work remotely or telecommute; May travel 25% to unanticipated client sites within the U.S.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree (BS) in Mechanical, Aerospace, Electronics, or Systems Engineering or a related technical discipline and 12 years of experience in the job offered or as Principal Engineer, Systems Engineer or related.

Applicants must have 2 years of experience with:

• Configuration Management Tools such as Enovia.
• Management tools, such as DOORS.
• ARP-4754
• On-site site project lead and Engineering point of contact.
• New program development including fly by wire systems, hydraulic, electromechanical, electronics and testing.
• Customer and regulatory authority interaction including problem solving, scheduling, and conflict resolution.
• On-site support of program requirements definition including Systems architecture, performance requirements, envelope and interface.
• Communication/coordination with internal technical activities including engineering requirements, design to meet cost, weight, and schedule objectives.
• Support in tracking technical deliverables in coordination with the Core Project Team.
• Engineering technical support in line with core competency (electronics, electromechanical, hydraulics, and systems).
• Mechanical, electronic, packaging, and/or optics engineering theories, principles, concepts, techniques, industry practices, regulations, and policies
• Engineering design to meet aircraft certification requirements per 14 CFR Part 25 – Airworthiness Standards: Transport Category Airplanes
