Job Description

Summary Statement:
Responsible for developing web-based technologies, working as part of an independent development team inside The NORDAM Group.

Essential Functions and Key Responsibilities:
Develops solutions to complex or unusual problems or assignments requiring considerable ingenuity and innovation including developing a product that can handle information at scale, safely.
Provides fresh ideas from all areas, including information retrieval, distributed computing, networking and data storage and security.
Displays versatility and enthusiasm for tackling new problems across the full-stack while developing innovative technology solutions.
Knows Ruby at an intermediate to advanced level but is open to discovering and implementing new solutions. Stays informed of emerging trends or technologies and evaluates their value to the organization.

Additional responsibilities include:
* Maintaining and developing the product codebase
* Implementing new features and enhancements to the platform
* Actively contributing to the product roadmap and prioritization
* Designing, developing, testing, deploying, maintaining and improving software
* Managing individual project priorities, deadlines and deliverables.
* Extending the data architecture.
* Identifying places for improvement; making the product faster and more extensible
* Working with the product, design, and business teams to solve problems

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Formal Education, Training, Professional Certification and Work Experience:
* BS degree in Computer Science, related technical field or equivalent practical software development experience.
* At least 4 years of software development experience.
* Master of at least one scripting language (e.g., Ruby, Python, etc.).
* Proficient with SQL, relational databases and excellent data modeling skills.
* Familiarity with at least one frontend framework (e.g., Backbone, Angular, React, etc.).
* General familiarity with Amazon Web Services (AWS).

Preferred Qualifications:
* Experience with AWS, Docker and other “devops” technologies is a plus.
* Strong sense of UI/UX fundamentals.
* Familiarity with the whole web stack, including protocols and web server optimization techniques.
* An understanding of the principles of accessibility and can build products that are accessible to users with disabilities.
* Experience with front end development technologies like HTML5 and CSS3, and experience building responsive websites.

Level of Supervision Required:
Works under limited direction. Guidance as to objectives, critical issues and policy. Exercises considerable latitude in determining objectives and methods.

Communication and Special Skills:
* Communicate effectively using electronic media and in written and verbal forms.
* Excellent verbal and written skills and the ability to develop and deliver executive level presentations.
* Competent in the use of standard software applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
* Exceptional interpersonal and team building skill and the ability to transform that data into new business processes using solid analytical, problem identification, and resolution skills.

Physical Requirements:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a Stakeholder to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the stakeholder is regularly required to sit and talk and hear. The Stakeholder is occasionally required to stand and walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The Stakeholder must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to travel between facilities and operate standard office equipment. Work in excess of eight (8) hours per day and five (5) days per week as required. Must be able to ascend and descend stairs.

Work Environment:
The work environment is active, highly collaborative and in an open floor plan with a moderate noise level.

Mental Requirements:
Able to work as a team member, highly organized, works well under stress and handle multiple priorities. Must possess interpersonal and communication skills to interact with other people.
