Position Purpose

* Ensure the development assessment process is managed in a manner that meets corporate objectives, regulatory requirements and the Airport Environment Strategy

* Assist with the successful implementation of the Airport Environment Strategy

* Drive continual environmental improvement at Sydney Airport

Key Accountabilities

* Manage and provide expert input to the development assessment process to ensure environmental aspects and impacts are appropriately assessed, documented and managed to reflect corporate objectives, regulatory requirements and commitments within the Airport Environment Strategy

* Identify the environmental risks and requirements for the design and construction of various types of development across the airport and ensure the risks are minimised and managed

* Provide technical review and guidance on a wide range of environmental planning and management aspects

* Assist with planning and regulatory delivery of development proposals by coordinating environmental approvals components

* Assist with providing high level representation on environment matters to regulatory bodies and other external organisations as they relate to development proposals

* Review and provide direction on the development of Environmental Management Plans to ensure documentation reflects appropriate, lawful practices

* Oversee and monitor contractor compliance to ensure implementation of Environmental Management Plans and provide advice regarding same to relevant internal teams

* Develop and implement in-house training in environmental management for staff (including induction), tenants, contractors and other relevant parties

* Undertake environmental inspections and audits of Sydney Airport operations, tenants and contractors to ensure compliance with the Airport Environment Strategy and regulatory requirements

* Keep informed on emerging environmental issues such as climate change, and make recommendations to the Head of Environment for initiatives and programs which may be implemented

* Participate and contribute to policy planning, development and implementation of environmental sustainability initiatives including but not limited to water, carbon, energy, resource recovery, waste avoidance and minimisation, ecologically sustainable development

* Develop relevant guides and programs to promote continual environmental improvement across the airport

* Work with other members of the environment team to implement initiatives outlined in the Airport Environment Strategy

* Respond to complaints and enquiries as required

* Attend environmental incidents, respond to emergencies and, when required, be on-call to cover airport emergency environmental response

* Other duties as specified by the Head of Environment

Qualifications & Knowledge

Required

Desired

* Environmental Degree or equivalent

* Class 1 Drivers License

* Knowledge of issues relevant to environmental planning and management; including air quality, soil contamination, water quality, heritage, ecology and noise

* Sound knowledge of environmental risk management, environmental management systems, environmental law

* Eligible for certification as environmental auditor

Experience & Capabilities

Desired

* Minimum 5 years experience in environmental management within a large, high profile company, consultancy or government department

* Experience with development approvals processes including undertaking and/or reviewing environmental impact assessments

* Ability to undertake environmental risk assessments

* Experience with development of and managing compliance with environmental management plans

* Sound written and oral communication skills, including presentation skills

* Experience in dealing with regulators and stakeholders

* Eligible to hold an Aviation Security Identification Card

* Computer literate

* Self-Motivated

* Ability to prioritise workload

* Experience with both State and Commonwealth legislation

* Experience in project management including contract management
