ABOUT THE ROLE


Job Purpose:


Reporting to the Head of Production Engineering, the role is to support the design of aircraft modifications and their installation on aircraft whilst meeting departmental and company objectives. Key responsibilities for the successful candidate include:
*Leading a team of Production Engineers and coordinating their input into bid teams and Central Estimating during developing tender opportunities.
*Providing concurrent support to project teams to ensure concepts are developed with consideration for cost, manufacture and installation whilst maintaining quality and delivery objectives.
*Aligning external installation solutions with internal designs to ensure their efficient combined installation onto the aircraft.
*Liaising closely with internal and external design teams, the Production and Maintenance organisations and all other stakeholders. The role will also involve exposure to customers and key suppliers.
*Remaining current with emerging processes and techniques with support from the Materials and Process department; to ensure the method of manufacturing is appropriate for the application.
*Defining the condition of supply for manufactured parts and assemblies in support of internal modification designs.
*Deriving detailed installation planning and flowing down estimates to individual work cards in accordance with the defined Product and Work Breakdown Structures.
*Providing support to the Supply Chain function in respect of technical requests and to verify the ability of suppliers to provide the required product or service in conformance with the associated technical requirements.
*Maintaining and certifying the configuration of the aircraft throughout the modification installation process and during flight test campaigns in accordance with established process.
*Supporting shop floor-based liaison activities to ensure issues encountered with planning documentation during installation are resolved in a timely manner and in conformance with established process.
*Leading the introduction and commissioning of new equipment and capabilities relevant to the Production Engineering department.

Key Tasks:


Daily line management responsibilities include:
*Managing teams of production engineers, whilst ensuring all activity is performed in conformance with established processes.
*Carrying out return to work interviews and performance development reviews for team members.
*Monitoring time and attendance for direct reports.
*Advising and supporting the Head of Production Engineering in the training and development of the Production Engineering team.
*Supporting the induction of new starters and contractors.
*Representing the department at project and management meetings as required.
*Preparing, monitoring and reporting actual progress and performance metrics against budget and schedule.

*Excellent IT skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel along with a knowledge and interest in emerging technologies.

Experience:


*Experience of understanding how a proposed electrical and structural installation design is to be integrated onto an aircraft, in support of the development of a detailed schedule.
*Experience working alongside and influencing design teams to effect efficient installations on the aircraft.
*Experience of creating and maintaining technical installation planning within an EASA Part-145 environment.
