Description

Based in St. Bruno, Quebec you will lead a multi-disciplinary team to manage the product and associated variants, in line with the Product Road Map, for the product family under your responsibility. In this regard, each product family must be viewed as a primary asset for the company.

You will work very closely with Sales and Marketing worldwide and the Product Delivery and Services organisations, having the following accountabilities:

1. Product Road Map for Product Family;

2. Product Development off cycle (Research and Development (R&D)) and on-cycle (on bids & projects);

3. Product Competitiveness and Total cost of the product;

4. QCD performance on work packages assigned to the Product Engine;

5. Return on Investment for R&D;

6. Product reuse (Key Performance Indicators: first approach: based on Doc 42; then on article number);

7. Order Intake for Product Family worldwide.

In your role you will:

- Work closely with Sales and Marketing worldwide to ensure that market opportunities are captured and requirements are understood and translated into the product family definition;
- Assess market potential, identify and prioritize generic client and market requirements and align on business priorities with Global Sales and Product Delivery and Services organisations;
- Establish and propose the product and service strategy;
- Prepare Product Book reviews;
- Define and manage the product baseline and associated variants and maintain the Product Book;
- Ensure the maximum reuse, enabling Bombardier to fulfil both market requirements and achieve requisite technical standards;
- Use building blocks that are made available across product families;
- Design and cost building blocks that have specifically been allocated as their area of responsibility;
- Ensure the competitiveness of the product family and competitive advantage by implementing, in the product roadmap, improvement initiatives and cost optimization initiatives that cover the entire product life cycle;
- Ensure product readiness for bids by leading product development (and the associated product variants portfolio), in line with the Road Map;
- Deliver all product data required by bids and project, including costing commitments;
- Own the product authority and lead the change control relating to the product family and guarantee the product integrity globally;
- Ensure the product can be sourced, manufactured, tested and serviced in the most optimized way;
- Lead the different development teams, up to GR6 for every bid and project that will be attached to the Product Family;
- Work directly with the project teams, to deliver the work packages that are assigned to the Product Family, meeting project QCD targets as defined in the contract;
- Manage the manufacturing of the pre-series trains and organise the Transfer of Manufacturing;
- Ensure product validation, authorization and homologation, as well as the product performance, including safety in operation and maintenance;
- Be responsible for building and leading a multi-functional core team to manage the product family over its life cycle;
- Lead the Engineering Project Managers for every contract arising or attached to the Product Family;
- Work closely with Engineering, Procurement, Operations, Quality, Services and Rolling Stock (ROS) Equipment, to build the core team and be jointly responsible for the Performance Management Program (PMP) cycle;
- Ensure strong talent management focus for all key roles (as defined in the talent champion framework);
- Develop both the team and individuals within the team to deliver optimized performance;
- Implement strong employee engagement strategies within the team.

Qualifications

As our ideal candidate:

- You hold a Bachelor or Master Degree in Engineering plus international recognition from an Engineering institution e.g. Chartered Engineer;
- You have a strong technical background within systems engineering;
- You possess international and multi-site work experience within a complex matrix environment and you have successfully worked within an environment, with strictly controlled QTC KPIs, as well as successfully operated in a global company undergoing significant restructuring / transformation programs;
- You own tangible experience of having led a multi-disciplinary team to manage a product within the capital intensive industry, incorporating highly complex engineering (ideally including software, mechanical and electrical subsystems). This experience should incorporate all primary phases, from specification to design and homologation (delivered within budget);
- Experience gained within rail, special equipment, lifts, buses, trucks, car, aerospace and defence sector is preferred;
- You have led a rolling stock or system project from Bid to Homologation to Services;
- You have proven experience within a product development role, preferably gained within a vehicle or complex product field, including managing key risks in product development;
- You have successfully delivered to multiple customer bases (Government and Private) in an international business culture;
- You have provided product focussed sales support for complex large scale projects;
- You possess in-depth knowledge and understanding of Product Development, being able to articulate best in class tools, methodologies and processes utilised in the product development cycle;
- You own knowledge of how product development processes have evolved over the last 20 years, including the requirements for "off & on cycle" development to effectively manage risk and how this influences the product development strategy;
- You have strong knowledge of the market, the associated opportunities and you are able to describe how these are in turn translated into product opportunities, including the process for market segmentation, target market value, identification of "critical win" opportunities, product start up targets and platform / product strategy development;
- You possess a good understanding of technology readiness management and development and how this aligns with the product road map;
- Your English and French communication skills are excellent both spoken and written.
