Job Summary

This position is for a Principal Mechanical Engineer in the Mission Product Systems group for the design, analysis, development, and test of equipment for communication, electronic warfare, network and similar systems on military platforms.

The successful candidate will be an energetic and positive-thinking individual who is able to function effectively in a dynamic cross-organizational team environment. This engineer will be responsible for performing mechanical development and integration tasks under limited supervision.

Assignments are usually part of a larger engineering project including analysis of requirements, documentation of design, implementation, and integration of moderate to complex mechanical systems and components.

Bachelor’s Degree in applicable engineering or science field is required (Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering is preferred) MS/PhD is desired.

Some travel will be required.

Job Responsibilities

This engineer will provide direction to a team containing multiple technical disciplines in the performance of sophisticated analysis, design and development of complex hardware systems. They will serve as a hardware architect to plan, analyze, design, develop, test and document hardware of high complexity and contribute to system integration. This engineer will recommend new tools and techniques to achieve continuous improvement in hardware development processes. Their decisions will have significant impact on cost, schedule, and technical performance. The candidate will provide essential input to requirements development and technical & product roadmaps. The ability to obtain, or currently hold, a DoD clearance is required.

Basic Qualifications

Required Basic Skills:

* Must have the ability to obtain a U.S. DoD Security Clearance

* Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) discipline

*

Must have extensive experience in electronic packaging design of equipment used for military projects.

*

Proven track record in developing products for DoD applications

*

Ability to lead a team of development staff in a Project Engineering role including tracking schedules and budgets

*

Knowledge of Mil Standards including DO-160 and MIL-STD-810G

*

Demonstrated ability to perform technical interchange (written and verbal) directly with program leadership and customers.

*

Estimate, track, and report project costs and schedules while managing scope & risk.

*

Support bid and proposal efforts using DoD required formal bid documentation. Experienced in the use of SEER-H is a plus.

Additional Qualifications Desired:

*

Airframe modification experience

*

Expert knowledge of thermal and structural analysis preferably with previous experience using computer modeling tools. (ANSYS preferred)

*

Must have design and documentation experience on a 3-D modeling toolset preferably Solidworks.

*

Act as a mentor to engineers including domain knowledge and lessons learned

*

Lead preparation of proposals and presentations.

*

Experience working with Subcontracts Managers and the ability to develop accurate Statements of Work for the procurement of subcontracted items

*

Demonstrated efforts to perform against and improve processes and streamline efforts to reduce cost, shorten delivery time and increase quality

*

Background in designing systems with TEMPEST and red-black separation requirements
