Overview:

Metallic Stress Engineer supporting the BA Program. Designs, develops and tests metallic structures or materials and their related fabrication processes for use in engineering designs. Analyzes, researches and develops structural engineering specifications involving metals, non-metallic or some composite structural materials for product design, or operation of product to include structures, mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronics, power plant, armament, heating and ventilating, equipment and maintenance designs. Analyzes design allowables, structural modeling in support of Non-Conformance Material Review. Basic understanding of damage tolerance and durability also required. Specific structural engineering specialties may include dynamics and loads, stability and stress fatigue. Tools utilized include CATIA V5, and a variety of software applications.

Responsibilities:

Applies extensive technical expertise in developing solutions to complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity. Assignments are typically performed without appreciable direction. Interacts with senior external personnel on significant technical matters often requiring coordination between organizations. Erroneous decisions or recommendations would typically result in failure to achieve major project objectives. Position requires sound engineering judgment, excellent communication skills, and the ability to interface constructively and effectively in a dynamic team environment. Team responsibility for technical compliance to all structural integrity contractual requirements.
Senior Level MRB Authority to apply engineering dispositions to discrepant aircraft metallic structure. Prefer Candidate to have experience with Customer Material Review Board (MRB) certification. As a member of MRB on Customer’s Program, ensure full compliance of the MRB requirements set forth by Customer. Candidate must have a very strong knowledge of FAR21, 25 and technical abilities in a broad range of engineering subject to perform MRB tasks. Must be able to resolve complex engineering problems encountered during Manufacturing/Assembly process. Must be fully familiar with Customer’s drawing systems and Customer’s process specifications. Have strong knowledge of certification Procedures for Products and Parts and be thoroughly familiar with quality control requirements set forth by customer.

The successful candidate will typically have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering; a minimum of ten (6) years prior aerospace structural engineering experience; prior MRB-D&DT Liaison experience preferred or basic familiarity with aerospace Material Review Board (MRB) processes and production shop floor practices desirable.
Mastery of classical and finite element model (FEM) structural analysis methods necessary to support withholding tag disposition of non-conforming metallic materials. Expert proficiency with CATIA V5 and AFGROW, CRACKS90, or similar industry standard crack growth analysis software applications.
