MECHANICAL FITTERS REQUIRED SPRING 2018 (MARINE/SHIPBUILDING)

An excellent opportunity has arisen for experienced time served Mechanical Fitters to work at Portsmouth Naval Base for large defence projects. The work is initially contracted for 3 months however the business will seek to utilise contractors skillsets on various ships, therefore this is likely to be extended.

Positions are expected to commence in March however due to security clearance timeframes, applicants are encouraged to apply now.

Rates (standed pre shift uplifts)

Local: £17.09 per hour

Non Local: £21.16 per hour

Please take note, that these rates rise signifcantly when on Earlies/Lates/Back/Night shifts.

OUTLINE OF DUTIES

  • Read/Interpret Mechanical Drawings.
  • Install and maintain various types of Mechanical Equipment such as: Main and Aux engines ( gas and diesel), Rudders, Shaft lines and associated equipment, Stabilisers, Pumps and valves.
  • Fault diagnosis and defect rectification.
  • Carry out detailed inspections and be fully conversant in the use of all measuring equipment.

Additional Key Accountabilities:

  1. Undertake additional training to be able to undertake extraneous duties to support the production team.
  2. Flexible approach to delivering work at various sites if required.
  3. Deliver quality work with an understanding of time constraints.


General information

  • Based in HM Naval base Portsmouth in support of Royal Navy, RFA and commercial vessels employed as an industrial mechanical fitter. Personnel must have served a recognised apprenticeship, have a deep understanding of mechanical work and be able to carry out the various techniques used in ship repair and support industry.
  • Suitable candidates will have a good understanding of safe systems of work including mechanical work, tag-out, confined spaces, working at height and RN specific safety operations.
  • A sound knowledge of mechanical systems and associated equipment is essential
  • Candidates must be flexible to undertake tasks across any trade discipline in line with the Flexibility Agreement. Must be prepared to work in a team to provide a high quality service to meet customer expectations.
