Description

Responsibilities include specification, design review, manufacturing, shop testing, installation, checkout, commissioning, start-up, and maintenance of applicable types of rotating and static equipment.

The position interfaces extensively with equipment suppliers, individual technical experts, engineering contractors, construction contractors, plant maintenance personnel, plant operating personnel, and project team members to execute projects and proposals, provide operations support, and participate in work process development efforts.

The position serves as a specialist in all mechanical equipment associated with the HYCO business unit including rotating equipment such as compressors (reciprocating, centrifugal, screw, and diaphragm), steam turbines, pumps, refrigeration systems, cooling towers, and radial inflow expanders. Static equipment includes shell and tube as well as air-cooled and direct contact heat exchangers, moisture separators, dust filters, oil removal systems, cryogenic liquid storage and distribution systems, etc.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

* Demonstrates creativity and ingenuity in applying engineering principles and practices

* Develops, selects and implements engineering techniques and solutions to solve difficult problems

* Participates in defining engineering approaches and in planning, prioritizing and scheduling work

* Ensures successful completion of assigned project phases within the budgeted time and cost constraints

* Prioritizes work and prepares engineering plans that accurately convey work sequence, priority and resource requirements

* Reviews and checks project specific drawings and data sheets to ensure compliance with design criteria and standards and makes design recommendations

* Influences team members and promotes ideas to improve design and implementation practices

* May analyze costs and benefits of various solutions then makes recommendations

* May lead field teams through installations, issue identification, analysis and repairs related to primary skill area.

* May write engineering specifications and performs engineering calculations

* Directs preparation of appropriate documentation for assigned project phases and prepares required reports and summaries to communicate project progress or results.

* Interfaces with internal and external customers/suppliers

* May provide technical and engineering support to Praxair regions and/or plants

* Applies and provides feedback on global engineering work processes

* Provides technical guidance to newer professionals

Qualifications

* The position requires a BSME (MSME or MME preferred) and 2-7 years mechanical equipment engineering experience.

* A strong interest in the field of rotating and static equipment application, as well as the ability to effectively work within office, construction and operating plant environments are essential.

* Strong communication and interactive skills are critical to this role.

* Domestic and International travel is required.
