Job Description

Conduct analyses and prepare reports to assure company products conform to Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and corporate requirements in regards to weight and mass properties.

Required Skills

* Prepare and maintain all company required equipment lists for each aircraft model.
* Manage and account for all mass properties design changes for production aircraft.
* Carry out a complete weight analysis, including mass properties, weight estimation, loading, weighing and/or calculate aircraft part weights.
* Prepare FAA required aircraft type certification reports showing compliance with the proper FAA or Foreign regulations.
* Review drawings, specifications, service bulletins, reports, etc. for compliance with applicable regulations.
* Create dollar-per-pound type metrics to be used by the organization to assist in new product development decisions
* Create and support trade studies to help determine the impact of designs to aircraft
* Develop weight saving strategies and maintain list of these opportunities for all aircraft models
* Maintain a comprehensive database of part weights and continually add to the database by weighing new/revised parts.
* Interrogate CAD models to determine weights and mass properties (experience using NX preferred)
* Do preliminary analysis on Marketing ideas and concepts affecting the aircraft structure and/or weight in coordination with FAA regulations.
* Determine and develop approaches to solutions within schedule and cost objectives
* Perform other related duties as required.

Required Experience

Bachelor degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering; a minimum of five years in mass properties, design, analysis or equivalent education and experience is desired.

Detailed knowledge of aircraft with respect to structure, materials and process specifications, and certification requirements is essential. Working knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR) Part 21 and 23, related Joint Aviation Requirement (JAR), and Civil Aviation Authority (CAR) 3 is important.

Comprehensive knowledge of documentation, spreadsheet and database applications; familiarity with Society of Allied Weight Engineers (SAWE RP7 & SAWE RP8); and ability to extract design data from solid modeling software is required.
