Description

POSITION PURPOSE (What this position is responsible for accomplishing)

The Manufacturing Engineer position is responsible for planning, coordinating, and guiding the activities of the engineering function and for seeing new or existing products through satisfactory production and Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO). The focus in this position is the ability to coordinate with other departments, outside organizations, customers, and suppliers to assure those functional requirements are met on time, at the expected quality level and the lowest costs. This includes working from engineering design documents, specifications, prototypes and change orders to determine equipment, tooling, materials and methods of manufacture to produce quality products within cost and specification guidelines. Additionally, the Manufacturing engineer will lead the effort to transition new products to the Ontic facility. Transition activities typically include organizing tooling and test equipment, disassembly, set-up, and validation as well as overall product line initialization. Any Manufacturing engineer assigned to the Material Review Board (MRB) is considered in safety-sensitive positions(s) and will be required to participate in the Department of Transportation (DOT) drug testing program.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES FOR THIS JOB

1. Troubleshoot mechanical and electro-mechanical avionic parts and testing equipment

2. Assist supply chain to procure, determine alternative, and evaluate substitution parts and to resolve supplier’s technical problems, drawing and specification interpretation

3. Create and modify master routers and technical documents based on drawings, Component Maintenance Manuals (CMMs), internal quality procedures, FAA and other regulatory guidelines, and customers’ flow downs

4. Evaluate and create repair procedures for discrepant parts

5. Function as the technical representative and project lead during product transition activities

6. Participate in MRB as a member

7. Initiate and participate in the controlled document change process (ECR, ECN)

8. Design assembly/test tooling and shop aids

9. Assist Customer Service and Sales in providing technical support to customers.

10. Oversee the production processes (including outside processing) with Quality

11. Act as mentor, facilitator, and educator to foster cross-training, creativity, teamwork and smooth process flow daily

12. Assist in identifying and evaluating suppliers for new or critical processes

13. Manage multiple activities and workload to avoid bottlenecks daily

14. Participation in management and department meetings

15. Perform engineering analysis to evaluate the validity of field returns (RMA’s), write technical reports, corrective actions, and interface with a customer as required to ensure timely closure.

PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS (What does the employee need to do to be successful?)

Timely support of production, MRO, customers, and suppliers.

Actively drive processes, and changes to those processes, which affect engineering department performance.

On-Time Delivery of assignments including (but not limited to) tasks associated with new product evaluation, adoption implementation, package requests, engineering master creation/maintenance

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited university.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:

1. Min. 2 years experience in aerospace MRO, manufacturing, testing, and fabrication, working with APU’s, Valves, AC/DC motors, actuators, electro-mechanical assemblies, hydraulic pumps, and accessories.

2. Knowledge of materials, outside processes (welding, plating, painting, machining), NDT and specifications as related to precision aerospace components and systems.

3. Knowledge of design/drafting practices, design for manufacturability, GD&T, and proficiency in reading/understanding mechanical drawings.

4. Knowledge of the FAA repair station procedures and regulations.

5. Effective communication and the ability to write clear, concise technical reports.
