In your role, you will:
Oversee EHS functions for assigned site(s) including advisory role to Site and/or Senior Management in creating and administering environmental and health/safety policies and programs for assigned facilities as well as ensuring compliance of operations and policies with applicable Federal, State, local, and regulatory laws. Assist in the planning, development, and coordination of safety and occupational health component regarding personnel, materials, and equipment.

• Perform managerial responsibilities for assigned employees and area(s), for example, performance review and feedback, opportunities for professional development and growth, and personnel decisions concerning hire, fire, disciplinary issues, and salary adjustments
• Establish strategic priorities, schedule, and action plans for EHS programs and activities based upon requirements from regulatory agencies, overall business plan, and top priority issues
• Develop, revise, interpret and administer environmental/health/safety policies and procedures and training programs to meet State/Federal regulations and business requirements, for example, HAZCOM, Lockout/Tagout, Ladder Safety, ADA, Modified Duty
• Ensure that federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, codes and rules are observed including OSHA and other environmental and safety record keeping and reporting requirements
• Manage the development and oversight of capital and expense budgets for EHS programs and activities, for example, authorize expenditures in adherence to budget, report exceptions, and verify accuracy of expenses
• Monitor activities where accidents could occur, halting any operation or activity that constitutes an imminent hazard to personnel or equipment
• Serve as the primary focal point on all environmental issues including regulatory compliance, HazMat training, hazardous waste disposal and documentation, including conducting air quality tests as necessary
• Review accident reports to identify patterns on injury and to determine whether unsafe conditions contributed to the accident; advise department of trends in injuries and proper safety procedures that may result in reduction of injuries; provide department with information that will aid introducing accidents and improve safety
• Develop strategy and corrective actions for legal counsel, regulatory agencies and consultants on multimedia regulatory issues, for example, air, water, waste, hazardous materials, hazardous waste, and remediation to ensure compliance
• Develop and implement appropriate safety programs to prevent or correct unsafe environmental working conditions and reduce the frequency of work related accidents and injuries with emphasis on aggressive prevention efforts for on-the-job accidents and injuries.
• Examine plans and specifications for new machinery or processes to determine if all safety precautions have been included.
• Consult with other departments to ensure inclusion of hazard identification, prevention tools and techniques in all materials according to adult learning principles
• Evaluate results of safety program efforts as reported through various sources and determines appropriate actions
• Conceptualize and integrate state-of-the-art safety technologies into work practices and training techniques
• Operate areas of responsibility within authorized budget, recommending expenditures, as necessary, for items not within authorized budget
• Prepare Period Reports Executive Summaries and other written reports to provide concise, meaningful information regarding department activities, trends and goals
• Represent Company in local, state and federal OSHA and EPA issues, audits and responses.
• Manage the development and oversight of capital and expense budgets for EHS programs and activities, for example, authorize expenditures in adherence to budget, report exceptions, and verify accuracy of expenses
• Manage the design, plan, schedule, and oversight of capital improvement projects for EHS including layout of equipment and production facilities
• Oversee the review of facility activities and capital improvement projects to identify environmental and health impacts required for compliant operation
• Oversee the retention and storage of documentation and paperwork for EHS programs and activities required for fact checking, future reference, audits, and general compliance
• May evaluate and/or revise current security protocols governing physical admittance to facilities to ensure controlled and authorized access for assigned sites
• May conduct security investigations as warranted
• May deploy and manage a reliable pre-employment background security investigation program per Federal, State and local laws, and FAA regulations
• May act as coordination point in emergency situations by staying apprised of emergency response systems, monitoring emergency activities and responding as outlined in company procedures
• Manage and oversee the administration of all EHS functions for either a major division or the entire P&L organization
• Provide direction and guidance to P&L Senior Management team concerning EHS programs, policies, regulatory compliance, and related activities

Qualifications

As our ideal candidate,
• You typically have 9 years of EHS or Safety specialist experience at a multi-process facility, which must include 5 years at the management-level
• You have a Bachelor degree in Occupational Safety and Health or related field or equivalent related work experience or Masters in EHS
• You have working knowledge of OHSA, EPA, FAA and Federal Aviation Regulations
• You have CHMM, REM or CSP designations
• You have working knowledge of process improvement methodology and application (e.g., Six Sigma)
• You have working knowledge of accounting and budgeting principals necessary to read and interpret profit/loss statements, meet financial objectives for assigned area and programs, develop and manage EHS budget (for example, capital improvements, remediation activities, and forecasting expenditures)
• You have working knowledge of aviation industry
• You have working knowledge of Federal, State, and local regulations pertaining to environmental/health/safety programs
• You have working knowledge of Worker’s Compensation process, for example, regulations, claims management, and third party administration management
• You have thorough knowledge of Comprehensive Investigation/Corrective Action Study (CI/CAS- ground water remediation project) budgeted accrual account
• You have thorough knowledge of environmental, health and safety, including regulatory requirements
• You have the computer skills necessary to learn and/or operate word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation, email, and web-based applications
• You have interpersonal skills necessary to establish and maintain effective working relationships with senior management, employees, and other departments
• You have verbal and written communication skills
• You have business writing skills necessary to create various reports and correspondence
• You have presentation skills necessary to effectively communicate, update, persuade, and/or facilitate discussions with all levels of management
• You have the ability to multitask and be flexible to handle change in meeting requirements and deadlines
