About the Job

Reporting to the Senior Manager Cargo Network Planning, the Manager Cargo Commercial Planning, you will define and Implement solutions to achieve the optimal cargo capacity for the company through clear and accurate commercial business cases. You will oversee the steering of network route profitability through continuous reviews and development of improvement scenarios. You will have dialogue and negotiate with Corporate Planning, Air Political and Cargo Schedule Fitting to continuously improve the overall cargo capabilities of the Group.

Accountability : 

           Strategic 

  • Ensure delivery of all financial (revenues, costs, profitability) and non-financial (long-term strategy, focus markets, utilization, competitive landscape) key performance indicators from cargo commercial investments.
  • Appraise the development of network strategic business cases to ensure optimal profitability.
  • Oversee the delivery of business cases within the department.
  • Standardize route profitability reviews and performance steering platforms to support the decision making process on passenger and freighter aircraft business cases.

     

    Link with Corporate Planning 

  • Manage the relationship between cargo and corporate planning to ensure effective implementation of joint projects and planning on new routes.
  • Review cargo inputs on passenger aircraft proposals to ensure cargo revenue from business cases.
  • Improve the overall decision making process on cargo commercial plans by aiming for group optimum output.
  • Proactively propose scenarios for belly capacity where cargo benefits can be found to optimize aircraft profitability.
  • Ensure full disclosure and coordination of plans and initiatives between cargo and corporate planning
  • Educate corporate planning to cargo needs and requirements prior to implementation of network capacity introductions or adjustments
  • Distribute accurately all relevant information from corporate planning to cargo departments.

     

    Link with Air Political

  • Manage the relationship between cargo and air political department to ensure coordinated delivery of relevant authorizations on applicable projects
  • Prepare all cargo inputs relevant for bilateral discussions
  • Proactively discuss and assist to define the workable plan for specific cargo needs
  • Distribute accurately all relevant information from air political to cargo departments 

  

            Operational/Scenario Planning : 

  • Manage the overall consistency of cargo network planning, both internal to the cases as well as including passenger network planning, alliance building and external capacity (trucks, interlines, wetleases)
  • Manage the valuation process of external ventures, with other airlines, for specific customers, in specific airports, etc.
  • Review submissions related to business cases for management decision making.
  • Review and manage sales and revenue management contribution and commitment to business cases
  • Analyze new route, capacity increase or project start-up costs, contribution and deadlines with operations
  • Mitigate potential risk factors to limit overall risk exposure while maximizing identified success factors on commercial projects
  • Develop performance review modalities on implemented projects and review post-implementation performance accordingly
  • Propose and Implement corrective measures based on findings to achieve optimal utilization of cargo and belly capacities.
  • Perform other department duties related to his/her position as directed by the head of the department

 

          Management & Leadership 

  • Establish the department or teams objectives and priorities to align with and support business objectives.
  • Manage the internal communication process within cargo on different planning stages.
  • Manage the overall consistency and direction of the Network Planning Structure.
  • Oversee and supervise employees.  Direct daily activities, recruit, train, develop and discipline to ensure a high standard of service delivery.

 

 

About You

You will have a University qualification to a minimum of Bachelors level or equivalent  however a Masters of Science (Engineering or a Financial major) would be preferred along with light programming skills, large database manipulation and hypothesis testing.

You will need to have 10 years of industry experience  with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience (Job related experience include Strategic Planning/Network Planning, P & L Steering) within an airline.

You need to be fully conversant with experience in combined passenger and freighter network planning model.

You should be able to delegate work, set clear directions and manage workflow. You will have strong mentoring and coaching skills, have the ability to train and develop subordinates skills. and have the ability to foster teamwork among team members.
