Job Description

American Airlines Federal Credit Union, well known for its financial leadership, innovation and service, has an opening for a Manager in the Financial Wellness department at its headquarters located in Ft. Worth, Texas. This position will be responsible for leading American Airlines Credit Union’s efforts in delivering a suite of services designed to enrich members’ lives in whatever stage of financial growth or situation they are positioned.

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Champions the vision of financial wellness, financial literacy and credit education for all members of the Credit Union
  • Leads the operations of the Financial Wellness Department including personnel supervision, staff scheduling, performance coaching and counseling, development and training, and culture creation and maintenance
  • Leads or participates in projects supporting member financial wellness and financial literacy
  • Directs the Credit Union’s overall financial literacy/credit education strategy to effectively reach the member base through all delivery channels
  • Manages various financial wellness programs for the benefit of all members across the enterprise, including leadership in the development of new or proposed programs
  • Collaborates with other member-facing departments to meet member financial wellness needs through seminars, programs and similar methods of support
  • Develops departmental operating and capital budgets, manages operations in accordance with approved financial plans, and reports variances periodically as required by corporate accounting policy
  • Coordinates with outside vendors for services related to supporting member financial wellness and develops recommendations for vendor services as appropriate for enhancing overall member financial health
  • Provides management reporting as needed for departmental activities and effectiveness of purpose  
  • Manages the functions and operations of the department in accordance with all Credit Union policies, principles, and controls
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Job Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must obtain the Certified Credit Union Financial Counselor Certification (CCUFC) through the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) within eighteen months of accepting position
  • Must pass applicable American Airlines pre-hire compliance checks
  • Must have an acceptable credit history, which will be verified (e.g., no past due accounts, charge-offs, collection items or bankruptcies) 
  • The selected candidate will be responsible for ensuring the security and confidentiality of all account and related information which is part of their work and for ensuring that his/her work is in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations including, but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • College degree or equivalent financial services experience
  • Five years previous Credit Union or banking experience
  • Previous management or supervisory experience

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Skilled in Microsoft Office software (e.g., Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) gained through either work experience with the software or education and hands-on use of the software
  • Ability to lead people and coach them to achievement, to engage employees to create an upbeat and empowered work environment, and to develop staff for growth
  • Ability to supervise multiple staff personnel
  • Ability to build, motivate and lead a team with a clear vision, a unified commitment to member service, and a passionate purpose to meet member needs regardless of their personal station or financial situation
  • Ability to work independently, efficiently and collaboratively in a fast-paced and continually changing environment 
  • Ability to self-motivate and lead with a passion for member service
  • Ability to manage stress, conflict, and multiple priorities and function as an integral part of a team
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in accordance with short and long-range objectives and demonstrate above average planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to write and speak with excellence; accomplished speaking skills required to deliver presentations effectively to members, credit union staff, and all levels of management
  • Ability to speak, read, and write Spanish is a plus
  • Ability to travel as needed; extensive travel is not anticipated, but flexibility is required
  • Ability to maintain satisfactory performance and attendance
