Duties and Responsibilities - Line Maintenance Crew Chief

* Provides daily ops briefing on status of each aircraft, maintenance activities completed the day before, and planned maintenance activities for the day.

* Provides technical guidance and mentoring to technicians assigned to his crew; helps resolve any snags and provides recommendations to Ops Manager and/or Supervisor on actions outside of his control.

* Actively supports the identification and implementation of Corrective & Preventive maintenance actions established to address quality incidents (CARs) or potential quality risks.

* Reviews the daily flying program and informs OPS of possible tail numbers to missions based on aircraft availability status and configuration.

* Reviews snags and scheduled maintenance requirements, assigns resources based on qualifications of available resources, parts availability, and training priorities/opportunities.

* Ensures the maintenance crew has the necessary parts, tools and support/test equipment available to execute maintenance tasks.

* Provides technical support to his crew during long or complex maintenance tasks. Ensures technicians have what they require to safely perform their maintenance tasks in accordance to approved maintenance documentation.

* Liaise directly with Engineering & Purchasing when necessary to resolve technical issues.

* Ensures all aircraft maintenance is completed to the applicable standards of airworthiness.

* Support on-call availability on a rotational basis as part of the Maintenance Operations Control (MOC) to provide technical and trouble-shooting support to maintenance technicians. The MOC rotation duty will be in accordance with the shift schedule in effect as per the collective agreement. The duty Crew Chief will be paid one (1) hour/day at the regular hourly rate of his classification. Note that the Crew Chief’s normal work week is as per the maintenance crew, the rolling 4 days in/4 days off as per the collective agreement. The Crew Chief’s regular work schedule and assignment will be in Trenton and he will not be assigned as a “flyer” unless an exceptional circumstance occurs that requires a Crew Chief to meet an operational need due to the absence of a qualified “flyer”.

* Maintains a crew handover log book for shift changes and hand-over to the second Crew Chief.

* Identifies opportunities for improvements related to enhancing maintenance work, quality, and safety.

* Ensures that all personnel participate in the Flight Safety (FS) and Safety Management System (SMS) Program in reporting SMS Hazards and Occurrences.

* Responsible to ensure that On the Job Training (OJT) Plans are completed in a timely manner.

* Responsible for maintaining cleanliness, neatness, and condition of work areas, property and equipment including toolboxes for crew under his responsibility.

Qualifications

Technical Profile

* Experience in performing aircraft maintenance; previous experience in Lead Hand duties is an asset.

* Licensed ACA on A-310.

* Experience in the performance of ACA duties and responsibilities defined in the Collective Agreement and in the Maintenance Control Document.

* Able to complete log book of apprentice technicians.

* Experience in completing the necessary aircraft documentation.
