Job Description

The PMO Senior Project Manager for Cargo Planning, Execution and Compliance will lead a team of project managers that provides project management and coordination support for the overall Cargo division. He or she will utilize best practices for Project Management Offices. She or he will also be responsible for mentoring and developing project managers on the PMO.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful candidate may be responsible for any or all of the following:

  • Interact with leadership to help prioritize projects within the Cargo portfolio of projects, both business and technology
  • Establish project management best practices and tools to be used for the management, tracking, prioritization and evaluation of projects and project metrics
  • Report out on project performance in the context of the project portfolio
  • Jump in and provide hands-on assistance to projects that may be in jeopardy or are struggling
  • Work collaboratively with business leadership, internal customer and user groups, technical leads, analysts, developers, architects and external (to Cargo) stakeholders
  • Bridge both business and technology efforts with project management tools, best practices and methodologies of both worlds
  • Mentor PMO staff on project management best practices and tools
  • Act as a project management and PMO evangelist within the Cargo division
  • Work under minimal supervision

Job Qualifications

To qualify for this role, a minimum of 5 years work experience as a Project Manager in a technical/business environment is a firm requirement. At least 2 years focused on cargo and cargo technical applications is preferred. In addition, qualified candidates should have a thorough understanding of project management methodologies and practices in the PMO world. Experience leading a PMO is preferred.

 

Knowledge:

  • 5+ years of experience managing large, broad-based IT software and system implementation projects using structured PM methodologies/practices with project planning tools, especially technical delivery
  • 2+ years leading (preferred) or working within an established and well-functioning PMO
  • Some travel domestically and internationally may be necessary
  • Certification in Project Management by a recognized project management organization (such as the Project Management Institute) or a degree in Project Management
  • Experience delivering mission-critical applications in a high-availability environment is preferred
  • Broad understanding of Cargo processes is preferred

 

Preferred Technology: 

  • Proficiency in MS Suite (Project, Excel, PowerPoint, Word) 
  • SharePoint management and usage
